MAF Sensor Location

My car is running very rich so I went to look for my MAF and oxygen sensors to see if they are bad. I found the oxygen sensor fine but the MAF (mass air flow sensor) seems to be missing. They are normally between the air filter and the throttle body but nope. All I have is the air filter, a hard tubing which goes to a flexible tube and than into the throttle body. Am I missing something or do I just not have one? Thanks

Re: MAF Sensor Location

I think 1991 had Speed Density instead of MAF.

Re: MAF Sensor Location

Yours is a Speed Density system which uses a MAP sensor. Yours has no MAF sensor.

Re: MAF Sensor Location

check that your engine temp sensor is not out of range. Also be sure the vacuum hose is connected and is good going to the map sensor and the map is plugged in

Have you pulled the engine codes to see if anything is showing?
the easiest way to pin point engine control problems

Just to make sure the MAP is mass air pressure right?

Re: MAF Sensor Location

I have no idea, that's what Goodyear told me since I have no code reader. I don't like trusting them but I have no other method of retrieving codes.
So if my MAP sensor is bad how would one go about testing it to see if it is bad or not?

You need nothing more than a paper clip or other piece of wire to read codes on a 3rd gen.

Re: MAF Sensor Location

Or just got to Autozone, or any parts store, and they can use their "key" to do it for you. Just play dumb that your Check Engine Light is on & they'll do it for you. Autozone gave me one of their keys years ago.

Re: MAF Sensor Location

Well I did that and the only code that came up was code 12 which from my understanding just means that the diagnostic system works. My engine light will come on while driving here and there but most of the time it will turn back off after a couple minutes. So, I'm kinda confused...
Also how do i check that my engine temp sensor is not out of range?

Hey I know it’s been a decade but if you’re still around what was the fix to your issues of running rich and the engine light coming on here and there?Im having identical problems and trying to figure it out and stumbled on this thread.
