Re: how much boost for a l98

Kinda depends on fuel and tuning. Race gas and meth to keep temps down, it could likely take 20 psi and may live. I believe the grenade took over 20 and a small shot to make 730 whp or so. Not quite L98 but stock gm parts.

I raced with a guy who ran low 12's at 115 mph with 12-13 psi on bolt on L98 via procharger.

They can take alot if tune is kept in check. I believe zz3astro here has been 18 psi on his zz4 l98, cant recall if he has zz4 bottom end or just the heads or what.

Re: how much boost for a l98

Depends on how well it was taken care of. Bearing wear starts to become a concern and high loads on crank and rods could wipe bearings out sooner. Some motors live some just dont. Really depends.

I would not be afraid to run 10-13 psi on good gas and intercooled with a good tune, if i felt motor was in good condition

This should have been posted in the power adder section

My brothers 91' 305 tpi ran high 11,s on 4 psi and very little tuning. A v8 doesn't need much boost.

What heads cam and intake were on it? Its very unlikely a 305 would go 11's on just 4 pounds unless in a rail car

Stock heads and cam, 1le optioned 5 speed car, only mods were headers, full slp exhaust, roller rockers, bigger injectors. Car ran 11.90. This was with a Paxton supercharger not a turbo

Re: how much boost for a l98

You have to realize that with forced induction, your adding well over 100 hp to a already v8 engine. What do you expect

Re: how much boost for a l98

Sorry i dont believe it. You would need atleast 330 whp in a light car well driven to touch 11.9's and since a stock 305 with exhaust would only dyno 200-230 whp, you are saying each pound of boost makes 25-32.5 hp. That just doesnt seem likely on a tpi based stock head car. I would have to see that one to believe it.

You can't go by numbers it does not work that way. Yeah he had problems on this site too with the classic response of " I don't believe you". This car was embarrassing c5 vettes at the time(year 2000). So you believe that low 14s are possible in a bolt on lb9 car but you don't believe that a supercharger could put one into the low 12's? And touching the 11's? I beg to differ

I'm almost positive it was 4 psi man, anyways , yes you are right it does matter how its set up too. You need enough fuel to keep detonation down. I think the op may have been wondering if the stock internals could handle a lot boost?

Yes, and I am not sure if 1LE models had different pistons, crank or other bottom end parts than a regular Lb9 305.
