I think that there is something wrong with my camaro :/!I dont think it should be like that, but you never know.. I need opinions from people..

How fast do you have too go to shift two second,third,fourth, and fifth gear, like saying your racing with friends just for fun.. I always have too shift from first-second like around 15/20mph..second-third 30mph... Third-fourth at 40...fourth-fifth around 50/60.. cuz if I dont shift at that certain speed, the rpms will go all the way to the red numbers like at 60rmps... I don't think its supposed to be like that..

Well Yeah, but i have seen some vídeos on youtube, Like a V6 camaro in there, it looks like it goes faster than mine,... so you saying nothing is wrong... But what about this, last time I race with my friend , he has a V6 S10 stock... I couldnt even go a car in front of him..

 

Who knows , too many variables.
How many miles on your engine , how good is the tune?
Maybe he is a better driver?
Maybe he has a NOS button under the dash ................

His truck is completely stock, and my camaro has 83*** miles on the motor, it was only one owner... I'm the second owner of the car, and is completely stock too....

Drive the car by feel instead of by watching the tach. Hold each gear until it stops accelerating, then shift. After you do that for a while, you'll get a feel for when you're outside of the TPI's powerband, and you'll learn to shift just a little earlier.

 

You also have to consider the rear end ratio.... same rpm, different rear end will mean different speeds....

I have the same engine/tranny combo and I would say your shift points are about where I shift....I also find the car is a little slow than my 85z with a T5 since that car had a 3.23 rear end and it rev'd up faster.....

 

+1 to this. I did my motor swap in January and swapped to the 90's dash, running by the tach was useless. I ended up installing a mini tach on my a pillar and even after doing the tach fix I was under shifting like crazy, I was running off sound rather than pull, I didn't want to beat on my new motor too badly even well after the break in period was said and done. I don't trust factory instruments too well any more. Jim is right just feel it out, I suggest doing it alone for a while first. I can get up to around 40 in first gear before needing to shift with my t5

 

Thanks for everyone, thats what I'm going to try to do, feel the car, but in case I don't notice any difference, what should it be the the speed to switch between 1-2? Around 30-40mph?

 

You guys are going about it all wrong. Its a TPI Stock car. Your max HP is at 48-4900rpms. Thats where you shift at. 5000 is the max. Don't go by speed. Think people think!
