Doing engine swap with GM zz383. Would like to retain TPI. Need help finding tpi performance upgrades. Can't seem to find SLP runners or a good Intake manifold anymore. If anyone has done similar swap I would like to get some insight as to what I'm up against. Again help on locating parts would be appreciated.
Theres a couple way to go with the tpi.slp runners with a edlbrock lower base.i was running a 355 with the upper plenum cnc machined slp ported polished an a edlbrock lower ported an polished with a 58 mm throttle an 26 lb injectors an it had plenty of get up an go..now that I sold that set up im in the middle of putting on a holley stealth ram.
When are you trying to have this done? I ask because in the spring time im pulling off and selling my "Maxport" intake. a tpi-slp intake: siamese plenum with monod throttle opening. SLP runners, base is at 1205 or 1206 gasket. The whole thing is 1.75" port openings.
Peak power is OVER 5000 rpms - normally shift at 5500 but iv hit 6K a few times.
wanting $775 shipped (price includes paypal fee)

Sorry, this link won't help you. Its for the bolts, not the runners...
I've got a 383 TPI in my Iroc. -as for intake, yeah....gotta look in the classifieds. Also try search tempest. Many parts are out of production, but there's regularly parts available. Shouldn't be hard if you look around. I would suggest porting/port matching too. I had some extensive work done to mine.
Just keep in mind that without extensive porting, cutting, welding etc. etc., even high flow aftermarket parts will really restrict flow. I also built my heads and cam package around the goal of low speed torque. Don't go for some big ole heads and giant cam. Mine is downright explosive off the line (even with a 3.27 gear) but it's about done by 5000. Maybe a tad higher. It's not gonna win you any races, but it sure is fun -and I knew that going into it.
Facebook link is in my sig. Lemme know if you have any questions.

Honestly, short of finding someone on any car forum offering these runners for sale, you are probably better off getting AS&M Large runners! I don't really see any lack of performance when compared to the SLP runners. You have the option to buy them used but ported, on e-bay. This is really the best I can do search wise for you...

In the good ole days of out the box parts, I would agree. Nowadays, with so many superior intake options, you really need work to make even aftermarket TPI parts worthwhile. The cast nature of the SLP, Accel and Edelbrock makes them ideal for porting, if not cutting and welding as well. -and once you start modding, they easily out perform the AS&M runners, especially on a 383.
As a rough rule of thumb (and not counting those crazy SoCal TPI guys) The best runners out of the box were the ASM, but all the cast runners allowed for better performance once ported. I've heard conflicting opinions as to whether or not the Accel runners were better or worse for porting, due to the cast in "tube" shape. SLPs and Eddy's are staples, and you can't go wrong with these. On a smaller motor, it may be negligible, but I'd want ported runners on a 383.
As for the base, if you're not porting it, I'd just leave it stock. The aftermarket bases are only marginally better, and they're often cast like crap. My base is a heavily ported GM base, and the ports dwarfed my stock Eddy 3860 base. Still, if you have the time.....the aftermarket bases have the material to port, and they'll ultimately flow the best.
Or of course, spend a lot less money, put in a lot less time, pick up a lot more power and get a Stealthram!!!!!!
Just looked at that zz383. Does yours have Fast Burn heads? ......if so, I think you can run a Scoggin Dickey Vortec TPI baseplate, but it doesn't have the material to adequately port, especially for a 383. I REALLY think you'd be better off going another direction.
Phoenix'97, I feel like I'm trolling the boards trying to talk people out of the TPI!!!!!! LOL, been that kind of week. Seriously though guys, I was a kid when it came out, and I've never stopped loving that intake! -and of course, I'm still running one on my car. .....but 30+ years on an intake that wasn't really up to the task even when new.... There are just so many better choices, most of which are significantly cheaper. There are reasons to keep the TPI, but it's certainly not for the masses. There are better choices.

The only two reasons I can think of is if either the engine came with one, or for nostalgia. I run mine because it came with the car and because I'm blown (hehe... blown, insert Peter Griffin voice lol), otherwise I wouldn't have even of bothered with it. All this talk about TPI intakes, but be prepared to get your @ss (not you, I'm speaking in general) handed to you by a new Honda Civic, especially on the highway...

Have you seen the info on what car I am driving? I am ever fearful of being deemed a troll on a forum that I don't belong! So, it's you and me both! Plus, I am crazy wanting to swap my stock LT1 intake with a TPI intake. Everybody has their own way of driving and each person has their own notion of what performance is. For us, we are trying to find ways to achieve that goal by finding the right parts for our cars! I will make sure to get some saved dynos of before and after.

Well, why are you illegally racing a Honda Civic with a few extra cards up it's sleeve? Naturally I can't compete with a Honda Civic that is tailored to race using a blower paired with nitrous! The only thing I care about for my driving experience is the joy I get from 1000 RPM to 5000 RPM. I don't care to race or prove anything, it's just what fun I can get from my daily driver and cruiser! I am still pretty sold on the TPI intake. The more I read about it, the more I want to experience it on my LT1.
I have a couple of years left on my TPI 383. I built it knowing it wouldn't be forever. Cam swap and intake are inevitable, but I wanted that big inch TPI for so long I just had to build it.
......I'm curious to see what ASE DOC does with that Pro Flo XT!
Hey buddy, I am in NC as well, pretty close in fact, I live 30 mins away from Greensboro in Eden. I Would like to get some info/ bounce some ideas maybe. I have a 89 Iroc-Z 5.7 TPI And I want to keep it stock for the most part but i wan to upgrade the internals. Thes numbers matching Irocs are starting to get peoples attention again.Anyway feel free to contact me joshwikeinc@gmail

I used FIRST® TPI https://firstfuelinjection.com/
Bolted on a SP383 Deluxe. Vortec heads.
Love it! Not a track car. Street use and wanted to retain OEM look and hood.
I did my own tuning and have to admit it's quite the learning curve. Had to experiment on the old 305 at first. Once I was comfortable with it, I installed the FIRST® TPI on 305 for pilot project. Did more tuning experimentation. Then finally went with 383. Used TunerCat & Datamaster at first but graduated to TunerPro RT later.
