Correct ignition coil???
Correct ignition coil???
I bought my 88 IROC 350 with this ignition coil. It seems to me that most of the ignition coils would have a regular plug (or 2) in it and not just 2 wires with eye terminals. Is this the correct ignition coil for my car??

Re: Correct ignition coil???
That was a old Accel replacement coil. The factory one had a black and grey plug.

No but I can make up some numbers lol.
Iirc the grey body connector is the body side harness the black is a jumper to the icm from the coil.

I believe they had an adapter that plugged into the factory harness connector too. Follow the two wires back and see if they actually used it. If they did all you need is the coil.

Thanks Pauly! I'll be able to do that tomorrow night or Saturday and trace it back. I tried to look at the base of the distributor to see the connectors but I wasn't able to see much of anything through the wires at the time I last tried.

And possibly the coil bracket, which is mounted to the rear of the intake manifold on the passenger's side, next to the distributor.
I'd bet they removed it. If not, maybe you'll luck out, and find everything you need right there.

Pauly,
good call! The original wires and connectors were still there. I was able to trace the wires back to the correct connectors. Now all I need is to figure out which MSD ignition coil to use and hopefully find an MSD ignition control module for my car. I’ve found Accel and a couple other manufacturers modules but not MSD.

Here is the MSD Blaster coil that I used.

You are right as I could not find a MSD ICM. I used all MSD parts for the rest of the ignition(cap, rotor. wires) and I decided to buy a Jegs brand ICM.
