Tranny won't shift... Leaves a mess for the kitty litter
I just got through a harrowing time with a removal and installation of a 700. (it's a real pain in the **** when you don't have all the right equip!!!) Now the darn thing won't shift. Why would this be happening? Could it be that the TC doesn't have any ATF? I know why there is fluid on the ground and that is the least of my problems(bad seal around the dipstick, fix that in about 30 min) but I can't figure out what the deal is. I started it up and it was bad.
I think I heard a grinding sound and I think the inspection cover is rubbing against the flywheel (not a big deal) Any input would be extreamly helpful.
On a nother note how much should this cost to get fixed since I'm such a schmuck and just can't get this thing fixed I'm thinkin that I should pay some shop but I'm not trying to go into it blindly cause I be a poor broke white boy!
and I just want my car back

1. Did you pre-fill the TC before installing it with a quart of trans fluid?
2. Did you make sure the TC was seated all the way? There's two sets of splines on the 700r4 input shaft. If you just spun the TC and it seated, chances are 99.9% against you that you didn't seat the TC into the second set of splines.
And that means a destroyed torque convertor, and possibly a destroyed trans input shaft- which translates into pulling the trans out, and taking the trans apart to replace the input shaft.
Find "how to check if the TC is seated all the way" here:

Good luck, man, I hope the problem is none of these. Good way to find out: Remove the inspection cover. Remove the TC-to-flexplate bolts. See if you can slide the TC, along the trans input shaft, towards the flywheel and then backwards towards the trans. If the two are mashed together...

I pretty sure that I put the TC on correctly but I'll give it a look anyway. I looks like I'm gonna be dropping the whole thing anyway. (Another 6 months out the window) If it did happen that I fried the TC what am I lookin to spend at a Trans shop to have the input shaft and the new TC installed? I am beginng to hate my life (Third 700 I have killed, first one I tried to fix)
I changed my TC recently and had the same problem ie it would not change out of first.
I found the oil level to be critical for smooth changes. Check this carefully. Also check the tv cable do a search for how if required.
I'm fairly certain my problm was due to the oil level although I did wander if these boxes get some kind of airlock that takes a while to clear or maybe some dirt in valve body cleared.
As for fitting the TC correctly I think if you had not slid it in all the way the box would not fix back up to the engine so youre probably ok.
Dont give up just yet

If someone could verify that
I'll be in heaven. Haven't gotten to look yet but I found out that I had more money in the bank then I thought... therefor I believe that the input shaft is gona be toasted along with the TC and Maybe I have to cut the crossmember just to get it out this time and maybe (well some good will come out of this... If I have to drop the tranny again... SFC's are going in too Gad damn it!

If when you bolted the gearbox back up to the engine you were still able to turn the TC freely before you fitted the TC to flex plate bolts then you are OK?
Question is did you spin the TC every so often as you did up the gear box bolts?
If the TC was not fully seated as you did the gearbox bolts up the gearbox and engine flanges probably would not pull together fully and if they did it may have caused damage.
Hey if the TC or input shaft are toast your car would not move. Usually not changing out of first is due to a low fluid level.

It just sound's like I'm gonna be heading to the tranny shop... It really sucks too cause my daily driver in the mean time just blew the radiator and stranded me on the turnpike...(sigh) guess the extra $$ has a home.
