The only factory 28 spline axles that you can find that will be a direct fit are from 90-92 f-bodies. There probably won't be many choices of those in the junk yards.

You can get much better aftermarket 28 spline axles from places like www.drivetraindirect.com for $125 each.

If they did then they were a special factory install. Officially they were never standard issue until 1990.

There's a catalog listing for the axles on www.tomsdifferentials.com

I had my hands on a set... then the f'ing pinion lock bolt snapped. I hate that damn bolt. Couldn't get air or power out to the car (in a junkyard), couldn't work the bolt fragment out with a pick, and after trying to break the case apart with a hammer & cold chisel, all I did was put some chips in the center (no room to swing a hammer). I was so mad... dammit!!!

Stephen, forgive me for being a rookie but aren't you the guy who was running 26 spline axles well into the 11s?

If you need axles check out these people. If you buy their Torsen unit, you can get axles for $50.00 more. Not a bad deal.

I never used 26 splines. I ran high 11's with a stock 3.27 geared 9 bolt. When I built up a 10 bolt I used Tom's KA 28 spline axles and ran as quick as 11.24. My 9" has 31 spline axles.

Sorry, I must have been mistaken. That's still impressive with the 28 splines.

What if they're the axles for a 93-up f-body? Then they'll have the ABS reluctor, and won't they also be a bit longer?

The 28 spline axles from the 93-2002 are almost 2" longer.
