2 series to 3 series
I understand that it's the thickness of the ring gear that makes a difference. The 3 series carriers are offset more to allow for a larger pinion gear.
Where can I buy shimes or adapter plate to do that ???

If it's a 10-bolt:
http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com...=28&cat=GM+7.5 about the 2nd page of stuff as you scroll down.
If it's a 9-bolt, you're out of luck AFAIK.

Naaa, I thought the 2 series base was further down to allow a thicker pinion (ie. 2.73, 2.92, 3.08). If you compare a 3.42 2 series to a 3.42 3 series, the 2 series ring gear is thicker also.
I think the main reason you don't see 2.73 3 series gears, is cause the ring gear would have to be paper thin.
With Richmond gears the 2 series carrier is more flexible in it's range of gear selections.

What gears are in your RS? I'm guessing 3.08 or lower (numerically) so your RS has a 2 series carrier--probably doesn't have posi(limited slip). The cheap method, go to a junkyard and get a 3 series open carrier--most junkyards will about give you the carrier, or you could get the carrier that the 3.42's were on(if possible), or you could buy any number of posi carriers, or you could get an open carrier and add a powertrax locker whenever you want to add it(when you install the powertrax you don't remove the gears). Lots of different ways to do what you are trying to accomplish, but I really would not spend the cash on a spacer when a 3 series open carrier is available cheap.

I Was told 9 Bolt parts are expensive.

I was told all 9-bolts, no matter what gearing, were all posi-traction.

I was told most junkyards have never even HEARD of a 9-bolt carrier unit.
Are you sure your refering to 9 bolt rear ends?

Kingtal0n, this is my tread, wtf are you taking about, you're answering at post that where directed to me.
Ok well I have been trying to find a 10 bolt 7.5 inch open carrier 28 splines. cannot find one, they're all 26 splines. I want to keep it 28 splines.
Now, I guess I should just look for a posi unit.
The gears I have right now are 2.73's.
Anyway, what's your toughts ?
