Tranny swap--85 Trans Am T-5 fit into 91 Z28 700-R4???

Tranny swap--85 Trans Am T-5 fit into 91 Z28 700-R4???

Hey people, i'm trying to be a t-5 and all related parts from a guy, and i need to know if his bellhousing/ALL bellhousings from a V8 will work for my 91 Z28 305/700R4 swap. Also, I don't know if its a 305 or a 350 chevy engine in the TA please let me know a.s.a.p as i'm doing the swap very soon

I forgot to mention a question... is the 85 TA Tranny and all related parts going to work with my 305 engine? i'm doing the swap myself and i'll be mad if i pay for the tranny and stuff, and it doesnt even work. any suggestions?

UPDATE. the engine for the donor car is a 85 TA 305 LG4. will that work with my 91 Z28 305??

Yes, yes, yes and yes. The T-5 and T-5 components will all fit in your car and bolt up to the engine. You will have to do "some" modifing (remove the knockout in the firewall for the clutch master cylinder) but as far as mounting pedals and the tranny bolting up to the engine, you'll be just fine. As a matter of fact, I have seen on alot of f-bods that the wiring for the clutch start switch is already there, tucked neatly away, even though the cars had autos.

Engine: L-98 with LO-3 induction. 350 CFI
Transmission: 5 speed and vette has 700r4
Axle/Gears: 373's in T/A .. vette unknown
yes the 305 bellhousing will bolt up, howerver since you have a 1 piece rear main seal you will need a later model flywheel, the 85's will not work on your car, make sure you get all the hydraulic clutch related stuff you can

Ooops, yeah, what he^ said. forgot about the flywheel. Everything else should be OK though.

hmm, so i need a later flywheel huh.. any suggestions on where to get one? he's sending the tranny the end of this week so that'll be fun this weekend

You can either ask for a flywheel for a 1-peice Rear main seal block, or just ask for one for a '91 Z.
