87 GTA 700r4 to a TH350 Help

I am taking out my 700r4 in my 87 GTA,...I am installing a TH350 as soon as it is done, what mods to do i have to do besides a new trans shift cable, shifter, and cross member?
Can i use a th350 cross member from a later year car which had that trans to begin with, or should i buy new, with better mounts and supports...I am running a 383 stoker motor with a holley stealth ram tpi system...enough power, but i want the tranny to stay in place...thanks for your help guys

First off kris, I would try a search. It'll get you started. That being said if memory serves me right all you need is:

1) A b&m or hurst kit. This will allow you to attach your torque arm on your th350. It also allows you to use your origional crossmember. But...you will have to buy a part from a pontiac dealer.

2) You will need a new driveshaft from an 82-82 thirdgen w/ a 200c tranny. Or have a new one made as yours is about 3" too short.

3) You can use your origional shifter and cable, you just won't be able to put your shifter into first. For example: OD would be 3rd, D would be 2nd, and 2 would be 1st. You can also use your speedocable if i remember correctly.

4) And plan on replacing the tranny mount while your there just for ****s and giggles. Replace your torque arm mount too. Might as well while its out.

Well that should be it. That should get your well on your way. I would also suggest a good torque converter & shift kit as well. Good luck.

Good to hear. You are right there are 2 different lengths of 350 trannys. The 6" or short tailshaft for passenger cars. And the 9" or long tailshaft for trucks. If you have the short shaft you have to have the new driveshaft. If you have the long 9" shaft then you can retain your origional driveshaft. Other than the lenght and application of the trannys, there is no diffenence to my knowledge. Just all depends on which one you have right now. Just take what you got and go from there. And if you have a short shaft and want a long shaft...just buy the long shaft. Its a pain to switch from short to long. You have to go inside the tranny and change the shaft and housing and stuff. Its a pain. Other than that have fun. But just for me saying so, once you get it up and running, get a shiftkit! Go for a stage 2 kit and row through the gears for the first time and you'll love it. But you won't like the gas miliage w/out your overdrive!

I did this except I used a 6 inch tailshaft because I was pulling out a TH200. So if you have a 6 inch tailshaft you can go to the wrecking yard and find the driveline from an 82 with the TH200. If you haven't bought the torque arm mount yet PM me. I got one sitting in my garage.
