Should my u-joints clunk MORE after being replaced?

Last week I had my new pro-built tranny installed and new u-joints installed just for good measure. Theyh never clunked, but I've see the driveshaft fall off of 2 cars this year, so I'm kinda leary about mine on 160,000 miles. The new ones clunk a lot more than the old ones. Is this normal?

i agree with the tranny mount. if it constantly clunks then it may be your u-joints. u will know your tranny mount is gone when ur car is shifting and u hear a big thud sound on the bottom of your car.

just my experince anyway:lala:

sounds familiar

Could also be the torque arm bushing at the tailshaft of the trans....if the trans mount checks out ok.

Brand new ES mount. Just had the TC, transmission, mount, and u-joints installed Friday. I'll check the torque arm. But my question is, why would it clunk more after they replaced all those things? Do they have to remove it or something?

Torque arm, trans crossmember ( and mount) all must be removed. Sometimes the two bolts that bolt up to the rear-end on the torque arm get loose and clunk a bit, they need to be torqued really tight. After doing that kind of work, you should at least get a Energy Suspension torque arm bushing, it firms the feel up a bit.

whatever it is, it seems to clunk a lot when I use the shifter, like going into D, Reverse, or anything else.

Alright, I've got a little bit more on the specifics of it.

It does it when I stop. Brake then stop. clunk. When I shift from park to any gear, sometimes when I take off.
