Car won't shift outta 2!!

Ok, this has been a problem for some time and I just ignored it until I ran a 16.3 at the strip and I know that if it had shifted, it may have ran better.

Everyone on these boards knows that TBI motors fall flat on their face in the top end.

What happens is, when the car is floored, it'll just climb and climb in RPMs. I already ruined one motor this way. So for a while, I would let off the gas a little bit and it would shift, then I'd floor it again only to let it kick back down to second.

Do I need a trans rebuild or some kinda cable. Everything is in good working order and it works great everywhere else.

Oh, and I should mention it has 2.73s with a one-wheel squeel differential.

Thank you for any input.

won't shift

If this is a 700r4 it sounds like it, could and I mean it could be as easy as adjusting your tv cable. On your throttle body there should be 3 cables. One is the throttle, one is the tv(Throttle Valve), and the other is cruise if you have it. You need to adjust it. This can be found in the Haynes book. If you don't know one of us can run you through the steps.

At any rate, DON'T DRIVE IT. If you haven't already, the cable not being adjusted can hurt the tranny. If not smoke it.

Most likely the trans is spent. The 2-3 clutches are slipping so bad they can't complete the shift at WOT. I had the same problem with my trans. A T56 solved the problem forever!

Lots of people had me playing with the TV cable too. Go through the automatic adjustment, and if that doesn't fix it the trans is toast.

I already have adjusted the TV cable a few times with no results. And yes, it is a 700R4 and I can probably work on getting a new trans if I have to.

Thanks.

Seriously, the trans is toast. I had the exact same problem with my 700R4. The solution was a T56. I'm much happier.
