car jump when put in gear

I don't know if this is wrong or not...when the car isn't moving I put in gear (R,OD,D,2,1) it jumps. Is this normal or not?

mine kinda goes forward when i first move in the morning, i believe its due to having the 1,000 rpm idle and putting it in gear gives the tranny / rear a shock. its alittle less or hardly at all when the car is fully warm and i turn it on and put it in gear.

my car runs fine and has been doing this since i have had it.

yes...but mine jump also when the motor is hot (approx. 65°C)

How high is the idle in yours cars when the motor is hot(in case of 2.8)?

there are 2 things that come to mind when that happens..

1. like mentioned, you have a high idle, and it gives the drivetrain a lil shock..

2. your trans mount is going bad and the trans moves a lil then stops..

if you dont have a high idle, and you still have that prob, check your trans mount

When I start my car it idles around 1,000rpm or so till it warms up. Yeah, its a pretty nasty shock and there really isn't a way to dampen the it.

Warm and out of gear its roughly 650-700rpm. In gear it drops to 500 - 550

btw, a nice way to reduce the "shock" (other then letting the car fully warm up) is to not have your foot on the brake when you shift... heh..

be careful ofcourse, but if you're say, backing out of the garage so that you can have the car warm up in the driveway, you can shift from part to reverse and that "shock" isnt there...

i just realized i do that this morning when i backed the car out into the driveway.... cause the exhaust dumps under the car, i have to let it warm up outside of the garage before i goto work....
