t56 cable speedometer tailhousing
t56 cable speedometer tailhousing
I just wanted to see if any new options have came out for running the speedometer with a t56 .
I know that the cable x will convert the signal to a mechanical driven speedometer. Also jags that run makes a tailhousing for the mechanical speedometer.
Has anything came out latley to do the swap? Does anybody make a tailhousing that will keep the speedsensor and have a mechanical driven output?
How well has the cable x worked for everbody
Thanks

Yea I'm wondering the same thing as this guy. I have an 87 with a mechanical speedo and was considering doing a T56 swap. Are there any other options other than the two that AustinT mentioned. I want to keep my origional speedo.
I was a little confused about the mechanical speedo conversion from Jags that run. Do you buy a new tailhousing from them and then swap it with the stock tail housing? Is it difficult to swap tailhousings? It looks like they want $350 for the modified tail housing. This seems kind of high.
Has anyone tried the cable x? How well does this work? Any idea what it costs, I didn't see a price on their web site.

I can't answer for the "cheapest", since I don't really think like that. "Cheap" isn't something I seek out in parts for my car. "Less expensive" might be though.
But the "least expensive" way I know of, is this, which has already been mentioned. https://shell7.tdl.com/~jags/T56_Order.html Of course, it's also the "most expensive"; being the "only" that I'm aware of.
Do you want your car to work, or just complain about what people who can do stuff for you that you can't do for yourself, want to charge you? If you think you can do it for less money somehow, quit complaining about THEIR prices, and go do it that way, and just let them go out of business. Maybe even start up your own company doing this or something, and then YOU can listen to people complain about how much it costs.
What you do, is you either send them your tail housing, and they send you a modified one of the same kind back; or, they charge you the price plus the core charge, and refund you the core charge when you send them your core. Not too terribly much there to "understand"; pretty much the standard sort of a deal.
It's not particularly difficult to swap it, if you know what you're doing with manual transmissions.

Another option is to buy the parts from JTR (costly, of course) and find your own machinist. JTR was not offering the tailshaft exchange while my conversion was underway. You'll have to give them a call to find out if the exchange service is currently available.

can you just use the electric wires from the t56 donor car to transfer your car to an electric speedometer rather than staying with the cable driven?

Yes, you could do that, in theory at least. As long as the electronic speedo in question could be calibrated to match the T-56 sensor's pulse rate. Which might require some sort of external buffer/divider box.
