Tranny cool install?
I got a tranny cooler from AZ...its a Hayden model# 514
anyways, Im going to mount it in front of the AC rad, Sould I run it thru the RAD or just thru the new cooler, it suggests that it be run inline with the RAD.
Also, I know I take the top connection off the RAD and run from there to the top in the TC and from the bottom of the TC to the connection that I took off from the top...but how do I connect the hose to the hardline? Did I not get a connection in my kit? I did get a new connector for the RAD to TC hose...but not for the hose to hardline...
hope this makes sense?
thanks!

i'd run the line from the top of the radiator to the bottom of the new cooler and then out the top of the cooler to the line going to the trans. sounds like you need soem high pressure hose and some hose clamps. i'd fit the lines with barb fittings if i could.

You can cut the hardline with a tube cutter and clamp rubber tubing to it if you want to. That holds up just fine and simplifies things some.

But you would mount the line from the rad to the BOTTOM? the directions show to the TOP. Does it really matter?
Then I guess I would have to get connector of some kind that would have a screw fitting on one end so I can screw it on to the hardline that used to be screwed into the RAD and then hook the hose to that...correct?

i would bypass the cooler in the radiator and just use the aftermarket one. that is how i have mine hooked up.

BUT.
the trans fluid runs hotter.
so it does cool it by bringing it down to a lower temp... the aftermarket cooler can bring it lower then that.
but you dont want it too cool... thats why the factory one is great... the engine coolent is controled by a thermostat.... it will warm up quick, and stay within a set range.
the trans has no such thing.. so in the morning, when the fluid is cold and thick, the stock cooler warms it up and gets it flowing.... but it doesnt let it get too warm either.
factory coolers are good. because they're submerged in water and not air, they can dissapate the heat more rapidly too..
they're just more effective then the air coolers...
however, you can use both if you do somthing to make it start to heat up more then the factory cooler can take... (like a big stall)

well I guess I'll run it inline with the factory cooler too. I need to get a connection so I dont have to cut the hardline.
My B&M kit came with a load of hardware and what you need to do is just get a barbed male fitting that is the same thread size as the fitting on the top line going into the radiator. This will thread onto the fitting on the hard line and then you can clamp the hose from the cooler to it. Mount the cooler in line after the factory cooler and you are in business. -John

You really should run it through both because chances are any cooler that will fit does not have enough surface area to cool the fluid efficiently. The trans needs to stay cool or it will get damaged.

yep thats exactly what I need. My kit didnt come with that. it came with the one that I thread into the RAD fitting but not the hardline one.

I mounted my tranny cooler....
here's how I have it..I did the inline install I just want to make sure I did it right..
I mounted the cooler in front of the AC on the front of the car. I removed the top connection on the radiator and ran the hose from top of rad to bottom of cooler...then the hard line that was disconected from the top rad I have that running to the top of the cooler..I never touched the bottom connection on the RAD.
correct?
Also after I mounted and fastened the cooler with the ties going thru tranny, AC and RAD......I notice now that if I do another cam swap or have to remove one of them...I will have to cut the ties.......
also how much tranny fluid should I be prepared to add?

Sounds like you got installed correctly. I think I added about a quart of fluid.

I run mine through the radiator one and my aftermarket one. My aftermarket cooler is also hooked right up to the radiator. Right in front of my fan that runs all the time.
I figure my fluid stays nice and chilly.

when you're not going 45+ down the hwy with your air cooled cooler?
id guess yours to be around 190-230.. depending on how long you're in traffic or sitting at a light... stop and go, ect...

What size tranny cooler would you guys recommend for a tranny with a 3500 stall converter? I am going to be putting a cooler in once i get the tranny rebuilt and also putting in a tranny temp gauge.
