WTF! 675.00 for a Used T-5?
All i did was burnt the syncros in 4th, id rather rebuild but ud think those things are filled with nuclear waste! No 1 round here, N.E. ohio, wants to touch it. Are they that difficult to work on or is it just easier and more money makin to refer me to buying a USED one? u never know how beat on these things are, so a used one........? I think ill leave someone elses problems in their own car.. ant ideas? L8TR.

It's all but impossible to "burn the 4th synchro". In fact, I'd go so far as to say, it didn't happen. Whatever is wrong with the transmission, whatever it's doing, isn't because of the 4th gear synchro. If it has symptoms that make you think it's the 4th gear synchro, it's probably really the pilot bushing / bearing. $12 for a bearing, about $2 for a bushing.
How old is the clutch? Was the pilot replaced when you last put a clutch in it?
What is the trans really doing that makes you think it needs a 4th gear synchro, a part that never ever wears out unless something else kills it?

heres the info......
so, maybe this will help in the diagnosis. I was driving with a buddy and tried to speed shift into 4th. Grinding it, i took it out of gear(although it never went in). after that night, it grinds everytime i go into 4th. Upshift and downshift, double clutch or not. The clutch is about 4 mths. old. Do you still say Pilot bearing/bushing? are they hard to replace? Thanks for the info, i hope thats all it is. L8TR.

Do a search on f-crazy's userID and the words "mainshaft" or "main shaft". There's alot of info on the general subject at hand in the post(s) that will turn up in that search.
