What is 5 speed setup from 85 Z28 worth?

I'm parting out an 85 Z28 and have had several request for the 5 speed tranny. I know condition has a lot to do with how much it is worth. But, I have no idea what to tell them. It has 116000 miles on it but it shifts smooth with not problems.

I've looked on ebay to gauge the pricing but the price range varied a lot.

Thanks for any help.

well, it's a older t-5 not the "wc t-5 " but, it's all on who want's it you can stick your ground and get 500.00 or sell it quick for 200.00 (that's with everything)

In truth, only a bonehead would buy a non-WC T5. I'd start the bidding at $50, and set the reserve price at $150 and see what happens.

I found a guy who was converting from an auto to a T5, so he needed everything. I sold him the T5, clutch, flywheel, bellhousing, slave and master cylinders, driveshaft yoke, Hurst shifter, pedals, interior shift plate and misc crap, basically, absolutely everything it would take to do the convert for $600.00 out of an 84 Z28.
He was the first guy I talked to, That should give you an idea.

600 isnt all that bad when you consider the time saved scrounging through the yunk yard.Plus it came with everthing and a hurst shifter.
Is there anyway to differentiate between the regular T5 and the WC version by just looking at it.Does it say World Class on it?

There isn't any external way to verify a WC T5 of which I'm aware. I judge them based on what they came from, and once I crack them open.

I guess to some people $600 for a complete NWC T5 setup is a bargain. I'm not one of those people. I see the rediculous prices people pay for stuff on eBay, which is why all I do there is sell merchandise. I rarely if ever buy anything. I know so many junkyards here that the odds that I need to shop for used parts on eBay are slim. My time is valuable, but I'd rather go look at what I'm buying and pay a reasonable price for it that deal with over-inflated eBay pricing, the hassles of shipping the item, waiting for the auction to end, seeing if I won, only to get an item that wasn't as advertised, or turns out not to be what I needed.

Case in point: I recently needed to procure a set of steering knuckles from an early GM (73'-'74 or thereabouts) 4X4 truck for my Blazer. I saw several sets go on eBay for well over $100, and shipping wasn't included. I knew that it was way too much. Instead I drove 3 hours roundtrip to a junkyard in Allentown PA. I paid $75 for a pair of knuckles that I chose from a pile of knuckles. One of the ones I chose had a steering arm for a truck with a lift on it, so I'll sell that on eBay and recoupe some of my costs. Even factoring in gas and lunch I still made out better than eBay, and I found a place that has anything I'll ever need for my truck to boot.

So, I take it, you would not be interested in purchasing the entire t-5 swap setup form me?

Just kidding of course. Thanks for the replies fellows. I've now got a pretty good idea of what I goin to ask for the whole setup.

Thanks

Well, I didn't sell it on e-bay, this guy found out I was parting out the car and came to me. He knew it all worked because the car drove and he wanted dibs on the tranny & misc stuff. If I was doing the same thing he was, I'd bite, he got everything and didn't even get dirty.

Thats what I've got here, a running, driving car that I'm parting out. I'm going to wait until I get it all out (probably after Christmas) then try to sell the entire setup flywheel, cluthc, bell housing, pedals, slave cyld, tranny, shifter, and console in one whack.

Thanks again for all the help fellows.

Car: 1987 Firebird converted to 91/92 Trans AM appearance.
Engine: 2.8 v6 w/ injector, throttle body, intake mods
Transmission: automatic soon to be swapped out for a T5
For T-5 identification check out www.5speeds.com Click on the link for t5 in the first column. It tells a couple of ways to distinguish WC from NWC from the out side and also has an identifier program at the bottom of the page where you enter information from the trans tag. This will tell you the year and original application of the trans you have.

Thanks, but the whole setup is still in the car below, so I'm pretty sure of what it is.

That car looks clean, why are you parting it out? Just curious.

Well, I bought the car on a whim for my niece who is just turning 16.
When I pulled up to look at the car I thought wow, that looks pretty good for what they are asking.

But, after I got it home and really started looking it over I discovered that it was originally a Mass. car that had seen a lot of salty winter roads. The underneath of the car from the rear of the doors back was pretty rusty and I just couldn't give it to my niece in good conscience.

So I figured I would just drive it myself, but, I knew when I bought it that the original 305 had been removed and a later model 350 installed with all the usual stuff like cam, edelbrock intake and carb which I did'nt think much about until I noticed ALL of the smog stuff was gone and it would never pass inspection here in NC.

So, at this point, I've decided to keep the engine for our GTO wagon and part the rest to try to recoup some of the money.

Although, at this point I'm having a hard time giving some of this stuff away

What kind of condition are the door panels, armrests, and seats in? I might be interested in them if they are nearly perfect. The interior of my car was a pit when I got it. I've put in new carpet, headliner, and everything else just about came from seveal cars in the junkyard. The problem is that I have an odd color scheeme in my interior that was only available in '85 and '86. It's been difficult to get parts for it.

The front seats would need to be recovered but the rear seats, door panels, and arm rest are in good shape. I posted several threads in the "classifeds" on this site with more photos

Thanks for the pics. I just noticed that you've got roll up windows. I've got power windows, so the door panels won't work on my car, and that's a shame because they look a lot better than mine!

My rear seats are fine. It's the fronts I was after, but I think I'm just going to buy aftermarket seats from SPARCO or the like.

Thanks anyway.
