700-R4 doesnt shift into 3rd gear

I'll try to describe the problem using my poor English:

If shifter in "D" then after start of movement it shifts to second, when its time to go up engine revvs but no third (like neutral).

When its in "2" then all the same, but if I move shifter in "D" third gear engages. But if I step more than half on gas pedal, then again engine revvs and no torque applied to wheels.

Rear gear is OK. Oil level and condition seems perfect.

Can you please help me to determine what goes wrong ?

On the day this problem started the car was idling for about 3 hours, may this be the cause ?

Thanks.

Your transmission is kaput Time to have it rebuilt. Sounds like your 3-4 clutchpack is gone. Either that or its not creating enough pressure to execute the shift or hold 3rd gear. Either way you get to rebuild it. How hard is that going to be in Russia??? Are there many mechanics that are familiar with 700R4 transmissions????

Unfortunately, its nearly impossible to find mechanic who can rebuild 700-R4 that lasts more than 20 000 Km

I have this table of pressures measured in idle and at 2000 RPM, made yesterday, May be this can help :

Gear Idle 2000 RPM
P 70 80
R 110 115
N 75 75
D 75 75
D 75 75
2 170 160
1 160 160

Readings are in PSI, with car raised on the lift.

you are missing the radings with the cable pulled outward, these are necessary in the diagnosis of the problem.the base pressures appear to be correct.the problem points to a 3/4 clutch malfunction in the form of loss or reduced clutch apply pressure or burnt or damaged friction elements.does the pressure drop on the gage during a 2/3 upshift?if so its an apply oil pressure problem,if it doesnt drop suspect burnt friction elements.

Can you clarify which cable should be put outward ? Sorry, but I have no idea about how autotrannys works.

You want the detent or "TV" cable fully extended. This will apply maximum line pressure so you can see if you have enough pressure to make/hold the shift or if pressure is up then your 3-4 clutches are gone. HTH

Artem,

Good luck wishes to you. I'd suggest getting a repair manual that includes transmission repair and diagnosis. You might as well add that to the shipment of the TCI (or whatever brand you choose) rebuild kit that you will have shipped to Mokbä. In that package, I would strongly recommend a TCI "Beast" reaction sun shell to replace the original.

Once you recieve all the parts and successfully repair the problems, YOU will be the American GM transmission specialist, and can possibly earn a few extra Rubles as a result.

Lacking a manual for now, you can check this link to get an idea of what you'll be getting into:

Thanks, Vader. But our Moscow currency is US dollars, not Rubles, as you can think, even my salary is paid in dollars

I was thinking about purchasing the whole tranny, but shipment would run about 1000 $.

So, I'll probably try to rebuild it. To your opinion which brand should I use for rebuilding kit ? Engine now produces about 300 HP, but I plan to add another 100 soon.
