pressure plate/flywheel bolts

I was once told the only "dumb" question, is one not asked, so here goes.

My husband is doing a 700r4 to t5 swap in our 1988 2.8L RS camaro. The t5 and hydraulic clutch is from a 1985 camaro. Anything that can go wrong, so far has. The following is my question.

Purchased pressure plate kit and had the flywheel resurfaced. When torquing the pressure plate to flywheel the bolts kept snapping. So I went to the parts store and purchased new bolts, thinking the old were just bad. The new GM were a different size. Apparently the old bolts are only an 8mm. These 8mm can not be torqued to 30#'s, (only 14-21) which is what the manual calls for. My husband even went out and purchased 8mm 12.9's and they snapped. So, can the torque be set at only 20? The 8mm seem to be the only thread that fits. HELP!

i was thinking they were 3/8-24 but not sure. you should be buying bolts made for pressure plates and not hardwear store bolts, not even grade 8s. i buy ARP for flywheel, pressure plate bolts.

We do not have a manual for this vehicle as this clutch and T5 was taken from a 1985 and we are just installing it into our camaro which is not an 85. Would anyone be able to look this up for me?

Torque on bolts for pressure plate to flywheel?
1985 camaro 2.8L with t5,

Well, it seems anything past about 35 will snap the bolts. I originally did get the info from Auto Zone for the 50#.
My husband checked a few other manuals we had on different makes, and ones with the lighter weight clutch and v6 (Buick, Ford, Honda) with the smaller bolts said anything from 18 to 25. We have just never dealt with Chevy newer than an early 70's Monte. That is why we were hoping someone could look it up in a manual for us. But thanks everyone for your help.

Thank you to everyone who tried to help, I did find the information I needed on another website.

The information for future reference is:

Pressure plate bolt should be a 5/16 and torqued to 20#'s.
My husband had already retapped and purchased the 5/16, so it is working out nicely.

If the bolts had been the 3/8's that a lot of the GM's call for the torque should be 25#'s.

Again thank you for your time and efforts.
