Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Get the VSS from a car at the junkyard, and install it.
One little screw (10mm head) is all it takes.
Look for a similar car to yours, same motor and so forth; the odds of the VSS having the right gear already on it, are much improved that way.

I have no clue (and wouldn't know about the dealer, either...). That's sure not where I'd go to get it, if I needed one.

for every $ you have..... Up here in Canada a new OEM VSS was $110.00 - and that was last year when I went throught this whole scenario as well. Head off to a wrecker, there are many cars with the correct VSS in them.-Andrew

I greatly distrust junkyard electronics
It'll still cost you less than a quarter as much as one at the dealer.

Start by locating cars that are TBI powered - GMC Chev trucks 1500's (89-92) or even caddie's - I was able to pillage 4 from this source. Look around the back side of the passange side dash area as a start to your hunt.... I was able to find a pile of them. VSS were used in TBI cars as they did not run the same ECM set up as TPI car's.
All the best finding them
