you don't have to change the vss, just the drive gear. Check the sticky in this board called "t-5 drive/driven gears" to find out which you need for your application.

I had my rear end swaped about a year ago, havent got around to chnging the driven gear, but this site is where you can buy them, a quick search will tell you more.
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/sp...____va.htm#350
If your have 3.45" in your rear like me, you wwill actually need the drive/driven gear for a 3.42 as they dont make drive/driven gears for 3.45"s.(as i have been told) the end difference however, in the amount your speedometer will be off, is only like 1-2mph, recently though in the thread i got that link from, it said that you need a blue 7 tooth drive gear if you have 3.23 and up and for 3.45 you need a 20 tooth driven gear, the site has both for sale, so obviously i have some conflicting info, maybe someone who is more of an expert can speak up and clear that up.

Re: VSS what's it do and how to change it???
no no no, lol if your going from something as low as you are your speedo will be like 10-15 mph off, when you switch in the 3.42 drive driven gear set, it will be 1-2mph of from what it really is(since you will have 3.45 gears and not 3.42). But as i said i have conflicting research now, in the fact that they do make 3.45 drive/driven gears. If that is the case than your set and by switching them in you will be right where you want to be.
i went from 2.73 to 3.45 and my speedo is off by about 20 something.

Re: VSS what's it do and how to change it???
well keep in mind that i have 3.45 gears and not 3.73 and i think saber covered all that info already
im confused your saying either 7 tooth or a 20 tooth? im gonna get some info and figure it out, hope that $hit aint expensive.
hey to anyone thats done it already, is it a real pain or what? im tryin to figure what thing thing looks like if its just that wire that runs from the guage to the trans or w/e
me and a friend changed a cable in his el co for his MPH so im wondering if its something like that also. thanks all.

No need to waste your time wondering. You have an electric speedo, your friends El Camino had a mechanical speedo. Check the sticky about drive and driven gears, pick the closest application for you (3.42), and put them in. Nothing to do with wires running to your speedo or any of that.
