How on earth do you get at the transmission end of the TV cable? Can you drop the transmission down so that you can get in there or is there some other secret to it. I am presuming you can change the cable without dropping the trans pan.

You dont have to drop the tranny,but it would make it easier.Ive done it both ways.
There is a small bolt that holds the TV cable to the trans.Take the bolt out and pull the TV cable up.Remove that S hook from the cable,letting it go back in the trans.Then remove your TV cable.When you put the new cable on,pull the S hook up,slip it on the TV cable,put the bolt back in.

Thanks, I can't see how I can get a spanner onto the bolt let alone hang onto or retrieve the s hook from the tranny. If I decide to drop the tranny how far down will it come if I take the rear mount off?

I have replaced several TV cables with the tranny still fully bolted up in the car. The bolt is like a 10, or 8mm and I use a small boxed end wrench to break it free, then it usuually comes out by hand. Once you get the bolt out, pull up on the tv cable and you will understand about the "S hook". Its very easy. Don't forget to adjust it when you are done.

GMTech, I have a question regarding this. How do you undo the little clip on the engine bay side of the TV cable? I mean the clip that attaches to the throttle butterflies.

Well I finally did it. What a PITA. I must've been under my car for 10 hours. It was quite restful. Hooking the S shaped hook into the cable took most of the time. Definately helps to lower the tranny though.

That's not what I mean. Once the cable is off of the butterflies, that little clip on the end is still there. It's impossible to slide the cable out while that thing is on there. Know what I mean?

J are you talking about the plastic piece that attaches to the throttle lever. If so it is attached at the factory to the wire.

hmmmm... so if it's attached at that end from the factory, then how can the cable be removed and installed? The cable sits inside a tube, and with that piece on there, it's gotta be too large to fit through that tube, right?

 

The TV cable and sleeve are replaced as an assembly, just like a shifter cable.
