700r4...no 3rd or 4th gear

Engine: 350
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 3.73
700r4...no 3rd or 4th gear

the other night i lost my 3rd and 4th gear while i was driving. it was acting wierd about 2 days prior to this, not shiftin right and just really strange. is there any possibility that all i need is a tranny service, or do i need to rebuild? thanks

Unfortunately if you are saying it feels like neutral where 3rd should be then you will need to rebuild or replace the trans

Check vacuum lines? I didn't have OD on my 86 cause I didn't have it hooked up to the right line (whoops!) hehe! But since you said it was acting up a little just prior it could be the more expensive fix :/

yea thats what im thinking. im doing a tranny service on it tonight for s***'* and giggles just to see if it helps, so who knows

basically just check if you have the correct amount of fluid and that its not burnt or brown, if it is change it. but it sounds like that transmission is gonna need a rebuild

No vaccum lines on a 700r4. check the fluid and drop the pan. Probably will find clutch material in it.

The transmission has met it's match. Send it to FLT to get it rebuilt.

3-4 clutch pack is toast. It's the most comon failure in a 4l60. Rebuild time.

Then how do you explain me not having Overdrive until I put the vacuum line in the correct connection?
