No 2nd gear or 4th gear.

Ok I installed a corvette servo in my 700r4, I thought I did it correctly, (took old sping out of old servo) Replaced all of the orings on the new corvette servo pieces. All I have is 1st and 3rd gear. Whats did I do wrong? I am planning on pulling out the servo in the car and checking to make sure I put it all back together correctly. Any Ideas??

Could this be my governer??? How do I take it out and clean it?

If I floor it in first it goes to 6k rpm then shifts to third, at part throttle it goes to about 2700k rpm and goes to third, can downshift to firse after Im below 30mph. I have the tv cable hooked up and adjusted so its a little loose at WOT.

Put the spring back in it. It doesn't work without the spring.

Re: No 2nd gear or 4th gear.

I put the old spring from my stock servo and put it in the new corvette servo. If the actual servo is flipped around would it cause this? I am thinking my 4th gear servo is in backwards too, causing loss of 2nd and 4th. My best guess. I will have to pull out the servo assembly and check to make sre they are facing the correct direction in the transmission. I pulled the old on eout and didnt pay too much attention to assembly order.

your TV cable isn't much of a factor here, but it is supposed to be taut at full throttle.

ok, well i willprobably pull the servo cover tonight and atleast check 4th gear. I am sure that the servo is installed backwords, I will just have to check and see. It shifts at 6k no problem i dont let off or anything its pretty cool with a built 355.

6k WOT gear change from 1st to 3rd will kill the 3-4 clutch pack in short time. - Something was assembled wrong on your servo install. Better fix it before it gets very costly.

its likely you put the outer part of the corvette servo in backwards or the band in your trans does not have the what I call place holders and the band flopped back during install and you completely missed it with the band pin

I took it apart and every thing was installed correctly, I am not sure where to look, could the misplacement of a check ball cause this??

I lived with no second or fourth for nearly a year, third didn't fail. I would go to at least 5500 in first, then lift off the go-pedal, and it'd go to third, and stayed there very well. a good '95 LT1 with Hypertech programming pulled it just fine.

The key being that you lifted and let it up shift before re-applying power.

Re: No 2nd gear or 4th gear.

thats exactly what i have to do right now, I am tired of 700r4s and they were not a good tranny for any sort of horsepower stock. I am going with a built turbo 350. Who needs OD anyway? I would much rather go with a turbo 400 but looks like a bitch to swap.

Re: No 2nd gear or 4th gear.

I laugh when I read post like that or hear from people saying how a 700 won't hold any power. They're not overly great stock, but the versions that came behind our beloved L98's took some decent abuse for a good 150K+ miles if the fluid was changed occassionally. - With a few decent parts put in during the rebuild and proper tolerances they'll hold some pretty serious street cars and 4wds, and with some $ in parts they'll hold into the 9's in heavy street cars as well.

Who needs OD? Anyone who doesn't want to see gas prices going back up due to increased demand....

Re: No 2nd gear or 4th gear.

.... well I am sure that if I have a 400hp 355, I proably didnt care about gas mileage when I put it in. 700r4s hold horsepower fine when they are built to do so, but the two that I have had with shift kits and corvette servos didnt last too long, this one being worse than the first one.

Re: No 2nd gear or 4th gear.

TH350 instead of 700r4 just because of a corvette servo swap? If you do pull out the servo again try and stick a philips screwdriver into hole where pin fits into the trans, and try to push the band with. You should feel the band push up against the reverse input drum. If you can't feel the band push it probably drifted. You might have to pull the trans pan to get it back into place. You should be able to fish the band back into place with the pan off.

Re: No 2nd gear or 4th gear.

do I have to drop the valve body to get to where the band is? Is is really a possibility it drifted bacK.... also when I push the pin in it just feels spongy for a while then hard, not sure if its pressing on the band. I guess Ill have to drop the pan and try to look up there and see if the band is on that big drum thing. and if its tightening down on it. I will also check all my ***** when im in there make sure none are misplaced. any other advice while i drop the pan to look for causing this problem?

Re: No 2nd gear or 4th gear.

ok, heres a pic of the band, where (or which side) does the servo pin go in, what should I look for/where. I am not sure what I am looking for in the transmission. any help would be much appreciated Pictures would be the best, but all i need to know is where and how I have to push the band on when i pull the pan.
