93 S-10 rearend swap to a 84 T/A??
Hello
I have a chance to buy a 1993 s-10 rearend it is a 3.42 10 bolt 7 5/8 ring gear posi and it has leafs. My question is. Will the internals fit in my 84 T/A 3.42 10 bolt 7 1/2 ring gear crown ? The T/A has coils? This way I wouldn't have to pull the rearend just swap ring gears and whatever elseI hope!!( New at the rearend stuff) Thanks..

The housing will not fit because there is no way to attach the torque arm. It is also much narrower that your TA rear end. You could swap out the internal parts, but the '93 rear end will have 28 spline axles and your TA will have 26 spline axles. You wold have to find a set of '90 or later 28 spline F body axles to go with it. The S10 wil have the Governor Lock differential, which is not recommended for high performance use. There are too many small parts in them that will break, and the case is weak too. You would be much better off getting a new Eaton 26 spline posi for your car than to try to make this S10 rear end work.

MUCH, MUCH easier to swap entire rear ends, than the internals.
Besides, if you don't KNOW how to set up the gear lash & such of ring & pinion gears....Just buck up the $ & pay somebody who does. If you don't get it right, it'll whine like crazy or even eat it itself up.
But, obviously, the S10 rear won't fit without cutting leaf mounts off, welding coil pockets on...Then it isn't the right width anyways, so.....

My '84 Trans Am has a factory gov-lock, while a '93 S-15 rear end should have an open or an Auburn. I'd be surprised if there was an old gov-lock in a '93 S-10.

Thanks for the info guys. Is there a certain F body GM model with a rearend say 3.73 posi out there that I could be looking for in the scrap yards? Or put out $ like Big Gear Head said and buy a Eaton 26 spline posi and have a Tech put it in? Thanks Guys..

Some came stock with 3.73s....I've pulled one from a 84 Z28 before, for my wifes 90 RS.

Ok so maybe I should be looking for a 84 z28 and start there. Is there a certain feature Like a tag on numbers that will tell me it is a 3.73 posi if I find a z28? Thanks

Look for the G80 (limited slip diff) and GT4 (3.73) codes on the RPO tag in the car. This will be a white decal with a bunch of 3 digit codes, probably on the bottom of the console lid or on the back of the spare tire cover.
