Went from Auto to Manual, CRAP! Time to go back to Auto? help!
If anyone has read my post about the Muncie 4-speed they know what Im going through. Its still up there near the top as far as i can tell. Im getting sick of my crappy disengagement problem, and Im thinking of going back to automatic.
Problem:
Radical Cam, car wont cruise under 1800 RPMS and seems to like cruising at about 2500 Rpms. Since im running 3.23's Im guessing a 700R4 tranny is a bad idea since My car will hate overdrive. Now I have a TH350 sitting in my shed, its old and crappy but I could get it rebuilt and get a torque converter and a shifter and i would be set! but what would I do with my $2500.00 In manual Tranny crap? I have a race built Muncie 4-speed with all new hurst shifter and bellhousing from lakewood with blockplate and new hayes clutch and pressure plate and new flywheel and everything is all new and perfect but I'm just not getting good disengagement with this clutch pedal or SOMTHING im not sure what. Where would I sell or trade my Muncie and tranny crap?? What would I do with it all? I hate dumping more money into a whole new project and throw everything else away!!!

Besides I'm getting sick of people with slow cars beating me cause their automatic tranny can shift faster than I can. I pull way past somone in first gear, then they pull past me as I find Second gear, same with 3rd but when I hit fourth its over.

Why not throw 3.73's (heh, as if it was that easy) into the axle? That might raise your crusing RPM high enough from 1800 to keep you driving...

Actually I considered that, but now that I've been hearing alot about How crappy 700R4s can be if they arn't built right I'm thinking I should stick to a TH350 and leave the 3.23's. I dont have the money to build up a 700R4 anyhow right now, only a TH350.
I'm basically asking what other people would do in my situation, having all this 4-speed manual crap and wanting to get rid of it all and get an automatic....
What would you do?

If you do go back to auto use a t350 there much more forgiving and cheaper to repair than a 700r4.

Today i drove it to work and... well to make a long story short, my Rocker Arm Stud BOLT on rocker number 4 is coming loose continuouselly. I will tighten it up and it will come un-tightened. so weird. Im even using a stud girdle. blah.

If you want a quick, reliable drag car, go automatic. If you like complete control of your car at all times and enjoy shifting, stick with the manual.

Well this time the car is REALLY REALLY CURSED. Thats it, I'm done. I DO LOVE control of all gears at all times and I DO LOVE shifting manual Tranny but WHEN:
#1: You are driving down the road at about 40 MPH in 2nd gear, you go to shift into fourth gear and... CLANG BAM BOOM CLANG!!!
#2: thinking your clutch linkage fell out again, you get out of the car just as it begins to rain.
#3: you pull out your tool box with 2 wrenchs that fit the linkage and run back down the road to find the linkage bar.
#4: Just as you suspected, the linkage bar fell out (again) because it loosened itself, no big deal you say, I can fix it.
#5: the rain begins to really fall now, your soaking wet, its 1:00 AM in the morning so there arnt that many cars out. you push your car off to the side so you dont get hit while working on it. Your still covered in grease, oil, and gasoline from 15 minutes ago when you removed and re-adjusted all your rocker arms, stud girdle, and did a jet change.
#6: you climb under the car, into a big puddle, and work your way under to put the linkage back in place. you find the Z-bar and the hole for the linkage to go into. you reach out for the clutch fork....
#7: Astounded and cought completelley off guard, you find the hole in the bellhousing where the clutch fork SHOULD BE. there is no clutch fork sticking out anymore. you let your hands fall to the ground and begin to cry.
#8: you decide that clutch fork has fallen into the bellhousing since it was too big to come out. you call Triple A (AAA) and wait for 3 hours for the tow truck. you keep crying.
#9: you decide having a muncie 4-speed in ANY car is not worth the trouble, you have it towed to miami where you plan on pulling everything out and selling it. (ANYONE WANT A MUNCIE 4-speed??) You will avoid all manual trannsmissions in the future. the car is cursed. you will sell the parts and use the money to have a automatic installed. end of story. you hope. (the car is cursed!!!!)
Thank you.
