Over a Barrel what can i do?
Two months ago I paid a local mechanic to pull my transmission and replace it with a rebuilt one from another shop an hour a a half away. Labor and all i gave them $1100 and my old transmission for a rebuilt 700r4 with a shift kit and a 2000 stall, i was told this would take only two days. When i got to test drive the car with the new transmission in it it would bearly shift out of first gear and it tryed to do that at 30+ mph no matter where the tv cable was. After two or three times of pulling the transmission and taking it back to the place it was built to fix it the mechanic decided it would be easier for him to pay some one else out of his on pocket to fix it. This guy said to give him the money and we wouldn't have another problem with it. After several times of him pulling it and putting it back in (over about a month and a half) he decides to build a completely different one and its still not right and now he's complaining about having to use used parts and not having enough money. The guy building it now hardly ever shows up and when he does its always another problem. All i know is i've payed my money and have no more to spend on a trans and i've ended up without my car for over two months and two crappy transmissions. The shop i paid to put it in isn't at fault they even tryed to fix it by paying some one else so now they've actually lost money on it. The shop who did the rebuild first is not giving back any money for the poor rebuild. I don't know what to do it seems like i have no options but to sit here and take it and hope this second guy fixes it eventually. I feel i have payed my money and have gotten nothing i actually had to buy another car because this was my only car do i have any options or did i just pay 1100 dollars to get screwed badly? I want my car back soon and i want what i payed for i don't think thats unreasonable.

All the best parts in the world to rebuild a tranny are well under $500 - so why is anyone using used parts? Why do I know this? Because I had my tranny rebuilt with really really tough good new parts, and my guy only charged me $500 for the rebuild, parts and all! I gave him a list of what I wanted installed (from the list at Pro-Built Automatics, a sponsor here), and he matched the parts and did the job all for $500 - and this is not my cousin - he was a total stranger until the day I paid him. And 3 years later, my tranny will still scratch 1 & 2, and ****** your neck in 3.
$1100 is rediculous to pay for a tranny swap. I can get working used 700R4's with a 30 day warranty all day for $300, and it only takes me 1 day in the driveway with Harbor Freight made in China tools, jacks and jack stands to swap it out all by myself.
You paid the one shop the $1100 - so they are the fault. 1) They ripped you off to begin with. 2) They agreed to get you a working tranny installed for $1100.
ANY tranny shop can do an entire rebuild for $1100 - $1100 for a simple swap out is nuts.
So, your recourse is with the shop you paid - it's they're responsibility - they made the agreement with you to get you a working tranny installed for a rediculous $1100. Go get in touch with the owner of the shop you paid, tell him enough is enough, and that if you don't have an installed 700R4 with a one year warranty able to handle 400hp by the end of the week that you'll contact the local news channel and the local paper as well as the local BBB.
Hell, I could go out tomorrow and buy 2 other entire running 3rd gen cars with working trannies for the same $1100 you just spent. After 60 days, the time has come to stop being nice, and start kicking a$$.

Take the guy that rebuilt it to small claims court. It doesn't cost much and you really cant lose as long as you have documentation.

Re: Over a Barrel what can i do?
The shop that installed it is trying to get all the parts of the transmission back together to bring to the first shop until they fix it for good. The second guy paid to work on it actually just stopped and said he wasn't doing it anymore and he's been paid $400 from the shop installing.
