T5 Clutch engagement issues
Ive searched for this for a while, and cant find this problem.
When I press my clutch pedal in, I have to be very fast with my shifting, as the clutch will release itself slowly, until the gear is engaged and the car moves itself, or making the shifter very hard to put into neutral (because its actually IN gear still).
I crawled under the car and had a friend press the clutch, and hold it, and I can physically see the slave cylinder (new) slowly letting itself back in, as if he was taking his foot slowly off of the pedal.
This problem makes this car hard to drive, not to mention very unsafe, if it happens at the wrong time.
I also notice that if I apply light pressure to the pedal and slowly push it in with little to no force, it will just keep going to the floor, and not release the clutch.
Could it be the clutch master cylinder? Thats my only clue, but I am not sure.
Thanks!

It sounds like you have an internal leak, (no fluid leaking outside of the slave, or the master cylinder)????
You of course have checked to see that the fluid in the master cylinder is at the proper level, and is not just pumping air????

Yes, Its full, and I bled the new slave cylinder. I noticed a SMALL amount of fluid on the master when I looked under the dash, but not much.

Well if it's full, and you bled the system properly, then that leaves an internal leak at the master as your problem!!
Try bleeding the system again, following the service manual procedure, and see what you get!!
The master cylinder for the clutch is not under the dash, it's up underneath the brake booster, under the hood!!

Hello bradley23150!!
I noticed in your info on the left hand side that you quote a 3.23 BW 9 bolt!!
How did you get a gear set that BW didn't make for the 9 bolt???

3.45 or 3.27 I can believe, but not 3.23!!

Re: T5 Clutch engagement issues
Actually the master is half in/out through the firewall, the part I saw with a bit of fluid on it was inside.
Thats what I was told when I bought the rear, most likely 3.27 than.

Re: T5 Clutch engagement issues
The part of the master that's half in/out is just the actuating rod, as the master cylinder is actually outside against the firewall, the reservoir is up top outside by the brake booster, and you know where the slave cylinder is!!
If your seeing a small amount of fluid inside, on the actuating rod, it's most likely that your master cylinder is shot, causing your problem!!

Is the rear end not original to the car??

Re: T5 Clutch engagement issues
Try your local dealer for a price, part # 385387.......verify that part number when you get there, so that it's a good number for your car!!

My rear is not original to my car either, it was changed within the first year via some strange deal..........between two dealerships!!

My car was 3.45 BW 9 bolt Posi, but someone got a bright idea of changing it for a junkyard special 3.27 BW 9 bolt Posi!!!
