Servo Cover partially came off? Why?

Servo Cover partially came off? Why?

Cover is hanging and lost all fluid. Bad cover o ring or was it not seated properly. Guess it was rebuilt with a shift kit by the previous owner.

should i just hammer it back in and reapply the c clip or replace the o ring first? or is there be something deeper in the tranny that caused this?

thanks,
Drew

Usually its just that the snap ring wasn't installed properly. I had it happen on my car after a fresh rebuild once. killed all fluid before I could shut the car off.

I don't see how I can get it back on without removing transmission.

Drop the crossmember, let the trans tilt back. Make sure the dizzy doesn't hit the firewall. Should give enough working room.

Re: Servo Cover partially came off? Why?

its an easy job, just remove the snap ring, cover, pull the first piston replace oring seal, vasoline it up, clean the snap ring groove, reassemble and make sure its seated right this time. Maybe buy a new snap ring?

Re: Servo Cover partially came off? Why?

if I remember right, there is a part that is notched out, you need to stick a pick in there and pry out the seal in order to get the cover off. Then take a big pair of channel locks on the cover and kind of finegal it out.

Re: Servo Cover partially came off? Why?

finally got the time.

pulled cover off oring is fine but the little black gasket was torn in the middle (not the factory cut) so the ring was in two separate pieces.

Could this have been from me twisting and pulling to get the cover off?

also does anyone know any tricks to get the snap ring back on the cover?
