Can anyone confirm this?

"Is your speedo functioning correctly? If it is not, the computer may think you are going faster than you are, and shifting into a higher gear, and then it shifts back to the correct gear after it relizes that it is actually going slower."

Can anyone confirm this statement? My car shifts differently almost every time I drive it, and my speedo does not work because I need a new vehicle speed sensor?

The only thing the computer controls in the transmission is torque converter lock up.

later tpi cars need the speed sensor to function correctly. If its not working, the car wont shift right. If the speedo doesnt work and the speed sensor works, things will be fine.

Since 700R4s are vacuum controlled, except the torque converter lock up, how would the speed sensor/ECM have any other effect on a 700R4?

Vacuum controlled?

There is no modulator on a 700R4.

Exactly. I thought only the 4l60 and up were all electronic and need the computer. 700r4 is only the lockup.

That would be cool for guys retrofitting them into older cars.

It's been a number of years since I've done a 700R4, but I remember the shift firmness and such having to do with the valve body and how many shims went into the accumulator, plus the proper adjustment of the TV cable.

Should all be pressure based.

Exactly my point. 4L60 is really just a "glorified 700R4" and got the 'E' added to it.....4L60E.....Because of the electronics.

Everything in a 700R4 is mainly pressure inside (valve body/check *****,etc.)....
