Is there an auto shifter that fits in manual console?
I have a manual trans car with a 4th gen Firebird center console swap. I am going to an auto (probably 4L60E). Is there an auto trans shifter out there that looks like a manual shifter and will fit in the manual shifter hole? I'm thinking this will have to be some type of tap shifter rather than a shifter that moves linearly down the gates.

Automatic shifters bolt to the floor, so no matter what you put in you're going to have to fill the hole.

Pop your auto shifter up through the manual trannies boot. It'll still look Manual, but work like an Auto.
That is how my 87 is STOCK. 700R4 tranny & a manual looking boot, just with a slider indicator beside the boot. The indicator doesn't work anymore, so I count count the clicks. 1= Reverse, 2=Neutral, 3=Overdrive, etc. Has been that way since I got the car & is 2nd nature to me.

You obviously misread my post.
I KNEW you had a Manual console. Re-read.....
I SAID.....
Put the AUTO shifter up through the MANUAL boot. That is how my STOCK setup is. Auto tranny with a Manual style boot.
Which is basically what TJs post shows....

Re: Is there an auto shifter that fits in manual console?
Edit: Actually, I didn't misread anything.
1. You're example was a manual boot on an auto console.
2. The real question is what shifter will fit. You can't just stuff any old shifter in there and expect it to work in the confines of the M6 hole. It has to be a ratchet shifter.
I appreciate your first reply, but the second was out of line. These attitudes is exactly why I rarely visit this site any more. I found the answer to my question and posted it here so others can benefit if they run a site search.

You are STILL misunderstanding....My example was NOT a Manual boot on an AUTO console. You have a reading disorder? I'm sorry to hear that....
Mine console is 100% BONE STOCK...BONE STOCK...BONE STOCK! Instead of a slider, it uses a manual style boot.

Can you post a picture? I'd like to see what you did and how it turned out.

This is getting pretty humorous because our minds are seriously not connecting. I don't want to keep struggling with you and I found what I needed. Have a good evening.

very common for guys to put 4th gen manual consoles in automatic cars. Did it myself. Much less work then trying to put an auto console in. any stock or stock replacement shifter will fit.
