700r4 DIY rebuild with Pro Built road racing kit
Finally a working transmission, works great, looking forward to road race it.

This was my first rebuilt, took my time, the whole rebuilt in around 6 days.
In the pics, the road race imput clutch stack-up, upgraded clutch springs and reverse imput clutch with wave plate.

Pump with upgrades, the new stator shaft has a large front bushing already installed.
Impact air gun is a must to remove the stator support bolts, I tried without, but doesn't work.

Replacing the bushings took alot of time, the 700r4 bushin driver kit would have been great, but I used what was around.
One bushig was larger then factory, I used the "wear signs" to estimate how deep to install it.

Optional WOT 3-4 shift modification and 2nd servo piston upgrades.

Here I realized that I forgot to use the new heat treated oem Sunshell, out everithing, in the new sunshell.

Finishing up.
I ordered the modified separator plate, that was easy.
2 tapered orifices and 1 plug need to be installed in the case.
There are 2 other Torlon check-*****, one in the valve body and one in the auxiliary valve body.
Includes a complete upgraded new 2nd accumulator kit.
Edge mild street converter 1800rpm stall. http://www.edgeracingconverters.com/...products_id=34

....and you didn't find the rebuild that hard to do?
Were the instructions hard to follow?
I have been wondering if it's better to build your own or buy a 700R-4 from a specialized transmission outfit.
I did the "Pro-built Trans-go" kit a couple of years ago and the car feels great, but with some aggressive driving I think it's starting to slip....
I have a feeling that doing this might be in my future...

I have the rebuild DVD, ATSG manual and the detailed pro-built instructions came with the rebuild kit.
Not too complicated with all the instructions, but requires tools shown in the pics or similar + lip seal installer.
I bought an extra set of bushings, good I did, 2 did not go in perfectly straigh the first time. The 700r4 bushing drivers would probably make it easier.
I wasted over 8000$ for 2 garbage raptor level 3 transmissions from PATC, so I took the rebuilt wery serious and went over everything I did 2-3 times to reduce the chances of mistakes.

PATC was the company that I was contemplating on going with... although I was thinking about their Level 4 model... $2300+ could be worth it if it was bullit proof...
I have a Transmission rebuild book, but the exploded views are just ridiculous to follow...
Did the DVD come from Pro-built?
Let us know how things turn out... I'm very interested.

I used TransParts, now named Oregon Transmission to build my beautiful auto stick 700R4. It took them three tries to get it right at a total cost of $2,300 but the last build was done 10 years ago and the fluid is still bright pink. It runs a custom C48 converter with brazed fins and 2,300 stall, holds every gear to 7,000rpm and shifts like a sledgehammer at full throttle. It holds 4th gear at full throttle above 120mph. I first tried the full manual conversion from TransGo, then a custom built unit from TCI. The TCI may have been okay but for no detent.
On the first two builds from TansParts, I tore up the forward clutch on a hard 2-3 shift at 6,500rpm. One time on the way home from picking up the car. I was close to giving up until the last time they did the build. They really went all out to the tune of an extra $650 but the results are absolutely worth it.

I have only a mild engine, should be around 360fwhp once I finish the tuning.

Drives fantastic. Like a brand new GM stock transmission under normal load, and tire chirping at WOT.
Yes the tires are slipping like crazy.
The optional 3-4 WOT mod (with a stock engine I would not do this mood), from around 75mph up it does not down shift at WOT, manual downshifting is required.

With weigt #1 on the stiffer sring side & #3 from B&M governor recalibration kit on the other side, WOT shifts are around 5600rpm.
