T5 drives like the clutch is always engaged

Help. New to the 3rd gen. Got my IROC convertible 5 speed about a week ago. Put about 300 miles on it. Last couple days I notice that the car's rpms have been much higher than the power that is hitting the wheels. Then today in every gear it revs up to the 5s and I get virtually no motion out of the car. Barely made it home.

Re: T5 drives like the clutch is always engaged

Needs a clutch, same as any other shape of wrinkled-up sheet metal that acts that way would, nothing special about this particular shape

What do you need help with?

I have zero mechanical knowledge. I thought if the clutch went out that when you pressed in the pedal and tried to get it in a gear it would just grind. The car goes in to all the gears just fine, but once there the engine speed increases with no increase in the car's speed. New clutch needed? that's cool. no big deal.

2 ways for a clutch to fail: (1) stay engaged when it's supposed to disengage, i.e. grind; and (2) fail to transmit engine torque, i.e. wear out. (1) usually results from improper assembly, while (2) results from wearing out.

Sounds like you're observing failure mode (2).

Perfect. That's exactly it. Now one last question. I am looking at buying new clutch kits. Any reccomendations? Looking at an F1 Racing kit.

Never heard of F1 racing, but I like my McLeod clutch.

I've had, over the years in no telling how many different cars, about every brand of clutch there is, and a few there probably aren't any more. Ones I can recall right off the top of my head include Hays, McLeod, RAM, B-W, Frod, Xler, GM, and Centerforce; along with a number of local rebuilders. Every one except for one instance back in about 1977 from one local guy (who made good on it after the fact) - every single one - worked flawlessly and lasted many tens of thousands of miles. Any would be a good choice. Although I will say, the CF Dual Ffriction ones have really suprised me how good they worked and how easy to drive.

Never heard of "F1 Racing". Now, I freely admit that obviously I haven't been doing this very long and don't have alot of clutch experience, but that's probably not a good thing. But who knows, might be as good as any of the rest.
