Re: how many clicks should i hear when adjusting the tv cable??
T-top Havoc, that is a very good link. The article is written by a trans master with a good understanding of these units. Breifly, if you think your trans isn't shifting right and want to check TV cable adjustment, follow the procedure outlined in the above link(or in the GM shop manual for your car). If the cable doesn't seem to click into place, check the auto adjuster at the engine end of the cable to be sure its not damaged. Check the bracket(s) that the adjuster mounts on to be sure it's not broken or loose at its mountings to the manifold. The bracket should hold firm at the throttle is moved to WOT and not flex.
You can detatch the cable from the throttle linkage by pulling the pear shaped plastic end toward you. Then you can test the cable and the linkage in the trans by gently pulling the cable with your fingers. It should smoothly extend with increasing tension as you depress the TV valve spring. Then as you let it retract it should retract smoothly.
The main reason I have seen for incorrect WOT downshift behavior, which is often blamed on TV cable misadjustment, is the vehicle's throttle linkage not acheiving WOT due to thick aftermarket carpeting or a floor mat wedged under the accelerator pedal or some other such thing. You can have a helper depress the pedal while you watch the throttle blades. With the pedal fully depressed you should not be able to move the throttle linkage any further with your hand. If you can then you need to address the issue. First, remove any obstructions to the pedal being fully depressed, then be sure that the pedal linkage is set up correctly. An easy fix that works is to carefully bend the metal bar at the accelerator pedal to increase the height of the pedal.
The number one indicator that I use to gauge proper TV valve setting is the 1st gear downshift. If you pay attention, you'll notice that the 700R4 starts out in 2nd gear unless the throttle is depressed to command 1st gear. If the TV cable is too loose, the 1st gear downshift wont take place, if the cable is too tight, the trans will hold 1st gear too long. This only applies to factory stock units. A performance shift kit and especially an aftermarket performance TV valve and spring can change all of this.

Re: how many clicks should i hear when adjusting the tv cable??
Okay I need to verify. When I was getting the 3 clicks I was doing it with the pedal, after looking at the info sticky I found in another thread he just used the butterfly on the plenum and I got it to click and lock in once and it seems ok. also since doing this when I'm going from 1st to second in Wot it goes to like 3600 rpm then shifts. I ran out of road so I didn't get to reach third or od. Is this okay? Or could I go back to that first could where I was shifting at low rpms and speed? If I was going 15-20 mph it was shifting at like 1500-2000 rpm and you couldn't even tell it was shifting really. Would it hurt anything to keep it like that or should I keep it like on the sticky where I used the tb to go to WOT?

You need to verify that the pedal is opening the throttle blade completely. Then you can use the throttle linkage with your hand to set the cable. 3,600 rpm is low for a WOT upshift even on your factory V6 700r4. I would like to see it closer to 4,500. Does your car do the forced 1st gear down shift on take off? Try it from a rolling start at about 10mph. It should down shift to 1st.
Edit: Remember, tighter cable means later up shift point. Looser cable means earlier up shift. By tighter cable I mean less clicks out from the base.

According to the tvmadeez articles, you want to avoid a setting that produces sloppy shifts that occur too early and take too long to complete. This means slipping clutches and bands that can quickly burn out.
From my own playing around with the 'correct setting', I can get part throttle upshifts with a nice feel at a proper feeling rpm. WOT upshifts are a little sloppy at this setting; I assume this is what shift kits are for.

Re: how many clicks should i hear when adjusting the tv cable??
Slippery shifts at WOT are generally caused by low line pressure. Low line pressure is generally caused by worn components like lip seals and valves. Or just a worn front pump. A shift kit can cover for some of this but an overhaul, especially with performance upgrades is the best bet.

That' better. Try the 1st gear downshift at 10mph. From a rolling start at 10mph, stomp the throttle and it should downshift to 1st gear. That will prove that all is as it should be. Have you verified that the throttle is opening completely with the accelerator pedal?

Re: how many clicks should i hear when adjusting the tv cable??
I actually thought I messed up something at first lol. Was out rolling around around 10 and I romped on it and she raised the rpms alittle then all of a sudden the car moved down so I could tell it downshifted then the rpms started rising and the engine was screaming lol. As soon as it hit 4000 it shifted though so it should be good, as far as the pedal goes I haven't had the time to have someone help me
