700R4 Build Kit
I am looking at strengthening up my transmission for my 87 IROC. It has a 700R4 in it and I was wondering if anyone had experience with purchasing an built kit from any specific company. I am looking at Monster transmission currently. They have a kit that is 479$ with free shipping. This kit is rated at 500 hp and 450 lb-ft torque. My engine was rated around 491 hp at the crank i think and I am pretty sure my torque is at least that. I am on the edge of where they rated it at but Im sure I will be alright.
Anyone had any experience with monster transmissions or any input on another comparable company?? Please let me know!

I used Pro-built http://www.700r4l60e.com/store/home.php?cat=19 and rebuild 3 transmission with great results.
Here is my 700r4 RR rebuild tread https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...build-pro.html, to give you an idea.

Yeah I looked at them too. Just are a couple hundred dollars more for a kit. I know you get what you pay for but haven't heard anything bad about monster transmission and I don't really beat on my car so I figured it might be a safe bet

There is a little price difference, at first sight it appears Pro Built includes the bearings, best is to compare the parts list http://www.700r4l60e.com/store/produ...&cat=19&page=1
Re: 700R4 Build Kit
I custom build all of my kits to match what you have and how you drive. It includes the latest upgrades that work, free video, setup the 3-4 clutch pack, modified accumulators, pre-drilled and modified separator plate, modified Shift kit instructions, etc. And you can always call for additional help. Monster does none of these from what customers have told me who have bought their kits. If you want a tailored rebuild kit, then I am the only one that offers them as far as I know.

Re: 700R4 Build Kit
Depending on how you drive, the Street/Strip or the Pro Street will be the ones to pick from. The torque converter stall ahould be 2,800rpm - 3,200rpm range from what you are telling me what is done here. I have the Edge $545.00 w/2 year warranty or the Vigilante $799.00 w/5 year warranty 9.5" lockup TC's. 4 pinion planets have worked well for many years without failures. I have them in many nine, ten, & eleven second vehicles doing fine. The 5 pinion planets were a bottom line move from GM, and were introduced as a cost cutting measure. If you ask around, you will see that the 4 pinion planetaries were never a problem. Unless someone has given you a set, I would not waste my money on them. The 700R4 Rebuild Kit Street/Strip with a pre-drilled separator plate goes for $701.99 (https://www.700r4l60e.com/store/prod...&cat=19&page=1) and the 700R4 Rebuild Kit Pro Street goes for $760.85 (https://www.700r4l60e.com/store/prod...&cat=19&page=1)

Re: 700R4 Build Kit
Ordered my build kit for Pro Built Automatics! I am hoping I will see if soon so I can start building her up. Ripped the transmission out last night. Dana from Pro Built has been a huge help. Thanks for recommending him. Here are a few photos for tear out to hold you over.
