3.55s for a 1991 camaro?

my car (1991 rs 305 tbi 7.625 10 bolt 2.73) is in the shop getting a limited slip installation and gear change. The mechanic said he found 3.55s for my rear end and i researched before and couldn't find any. Does anyone no where you can get these or is there no such gears because I've been searching for hours? Thanks

Never seen or heard of such; but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I'd recommend you avoid name-calling under any and all circumstances.

Ask him to count the teeth on the gears and tell you what they are.

3.55 = 11 & 39

Thanks, i never called him any names in person and didn't mean to offend him in any way, i'm just inquiring because i have a a friend that would be interested for his third gen and i can't find where he ordered / found them from which makes me wonder.

I've never seen a 3.55, 3.50 or anything in the 3.5 range for the 7.5 10 bolt. There is a 3.42, which is the closest you will get.

I hope you are getting an Eaton Posi, Yukon Dura Grip, Truetrac or something like that and not the Auburn.

Awesome, Thanks for linking those and not sure on the unit, cars lucky to come out more than 5 times a year. Would not have expected Amazon to have them after talking to summit, looking at Jeg's, Napa, Orilies, Autozone, Parts-Train, so on and so forth. Thanks again, its greatly appreciated.

I knew I had posted something re: 3.55 gears before.

Interestingly enough, the company to which I linked in that old post ( https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/post...081-post4.html ) lists them for both 2 and 3 series carriers.

Now I'm off to search for 3.90s.

Re: 3.55s for a 1991 camaro?

Some aftermarket company did a limited run of 3.55:1 gears, but good luck finding a set, new or used. Motive Gear has 3.91:1 gears new.

See if you can find a 3.55 for the corporate 8.5 rear end. I've been telling people for years that those don't exist.

What's the need, anyway? Either adjust the tire diameter by 1/2", or adjust the engine's powerband by 100 RPM. Or swap a Ford 8.8"

Re: 3.55s for a 1991 camaro?

There is no need. I didn't think that there was a 3.55 for the 7.5, so I told people that there wasn't one. jmd proved that I was wrong, so I wanted to see if I was wrong about the 8.5 too. I don't like giving people the wrong answer. If there is a 3.55 for the 8.5 I would like to know.
