The one it came with (700-R4), suitably reinforced if your particular 350 needs it.

I also think a th700 would be a good choice-pretty much a bolt in into an '84.A th350 would also be ok-especially if your axle ratio is 3.23 or steeper.TH350 not a direct bolt in,but still easy to install.

Assuming your 350 is a Chevy small block, then your existing transmission bolts RIGHT UP to it, since the 305 it originally came with is also a Chevy small block.
