Correct tool- T5 drain plug pictures

Hi,
Attached is a picture of my drain plug. It is slightly leaking around but still have about 3 threads to go. I can’ t get it to rotate anymore with my vice grips. The only ratchet I can get to almost fit is 3/4” (6point) but stripped it.

in another note, I need to replace the o rings of the speedometer cable. Do I need to pull the bullet completely out to replace it?

any advice welcome, thanks.

Re: Correct tool- T5 drain plug pictures

This is what you have for your oil pan drain plug???

That is not the correct plug. You are showing a pipe plug with NPT (tapered) threads.

Your oil pan uses straight threads with a sealing washer under the head of the bolt.

Thanks!

another quick question since I will be under the car, I need to replace the o rings of the speedometer cable. Do I need to pull the bullet completely out to replace it?

Best tool for that is one of these. https://www.homedepot.com/p/LTWFITTI...3810/313756880 Just one; not a 10-pack.

Re: Correct tool- T5 drain plug pictures

Oh I forgot... yes the "bullet" has to come out to get at the O-ring. There's also a little tiny lip seal at the top, where the cable inner core goes into it, and that fails ALOT. If you still have the stock chinesium "bullet" I STRONGLY urge you to just replace it. Needless to say it comes with all the rubber. Same one fits Turbo 350 so it's SOOOOOPER EEEEEEEZZZZY to get, for example https://transmissioncenter.net/shop/...-gear-housing/

Re: Correct tool- T5 drain plug pictures

Quick update: i just removed speedo bullet and it drain some trans oil. Do I need to add oil to the tranny before I installed the new bullet? Can it be done thru the bullet hole?
Thanks!

Re: Correct tool- T5 drain plug pictures

Should only have drained a floz or 2 at most. Probably not worth worrying about, since the T-5 version we have being "tilted", ends up accepting near an extra half quart compared to the same transmission in other cars when filled through that hole.

Sure, you can add some in the speedo bullet hole if you want, or into the main fill hole if you prefer. Butt, if fluid came out of there when you removed it, it probably wasn't low to begin with, and is probably OK afterwards, if only a little came out. All depends on how much got out.

Re: Correct tool- T5 drain plug pictures

Thanks again.

Definitely more than 2 oz. More like a cup came out. I was expecting a lot less from what I have read.

Re: Correct tool- T5 drain plug pictures

I guess that would depend on how you had the car positioned. If it was high in the front then no doubt more of the fluid would have run to the rear.

Let the car down, jack it up from the rear and support the rear with stands with the front sitting on the ground, pour it back in.

Re: Correct tool- T5 drain plug pictures

search out a "recessed square," plug, which will take a 3/8" extension. Simplest and most commonly available.
