There are a few threads here regarding the different TV cables available for a carbed SBC. All with the 700R4 in this case. Some I've contributed to with what I've gone through.
That said, what I don't have is a P/N (from any supplier) that'll be the correct length.
I'm going have a bundle tied up in another transmission and the last thing I need is a TV cable that could potentially mess up the whole thing.
FTR, I've dialed in the correct geometry previously so I've no issues there. From the threads though it's apparent that there's some difference in the amount of exposed cable that's available to work with at the carb.
I'm looking for a replacement because during the latest trans install, I tweaked the housing at the transmission end and probably cracked the cable mounting boss. A leak is something else I don't need.
Thanks in advance. Any and all information is appreciated.
I'll tag John in RI with this because he had a comprehensive list (with pictures) of what was going on. @John in RI
While I can't make any promises right now about where or when, I plan or ripping teh LT1 out of my ride and converting back to Carb for next driving season. Once I'm back workin' in the garage again I'll try to find the TV cables I've still got laying around to see what I can come up with.
Skinny: Here's a link that old thread you mentioned.
P.S. When your a guy that does engine swaps or tranny swaps, Dealing with that cable is just about as bad as dealing with the auto tranny dipstick tube,.......... 2 reasons MORE reasons that make the a manual swap so appealing !
Thanks for that John.
I'm still a few months away from getting the new transmission installed anyway. Maybe our timelines will cross.
And why did you mention dipsticks!?
That had to be the most frustrating part of the last install. It's not so much an issue when the engine and transmission go in as an assembly from the top but the transmission in from the bottom, (in my case this last go around the car is on jack stands so clearance underneath is limited) meant that the tube has to go in after the fact. All but impossible.
I'll have to revise my approach next time. And get a new dipstick too. The last one didn't fare well.
I mentioned the dipstick tube only because as I was thinking about how nice it was to be 'done' with the Auto TV Cable, it's even better to be 'done' with that dam dipstick tube as well ! Owning a third gen without needing to deal with those 2 automatic specific parts is ------> wonderful !
Finding the RIGHT cable when doing a conversion/swap is a PITA; but that dipstick tube is ALWAYS a PITA!
I'd often considered making the switch to a stick car. One ambition I have is to participate in an open road event like Sandhills in Nebraska. 2nd level entries are permitted a top speed of 140 MPH and that would be simple enough with a T56 or similar. It's not that easy with an 4L60.
That said, drag racing are my roots and I've built this latest engine around a drag racing concept and the automatic and big stall converter are the last pieces of the puzzle. The transmission is on the bench as we speak and the converter is a phone call away.
So there's a dipstick and TV cable still to deal with.
I missed that post.
That's interesting in that it looks to have a lock on the exposed cable end.
Might be something to that. Thanks!
EDIT: Just checked out the full description. Plenty of OEM part numbers and cable length description.
That should prove to be very helpful.
Thanks again.
