I put one in my 91z28 and now I cvant get the ebrake cables to work right. both ends are hooked up but the bracket on the frame or body is in the wrong place. how can i get this to work

 

order e-brake cables for a 3rd gen and all will be well with your swap. That should work. I haven't swapped mine, but I have one of each, I should measure to ensure one is longer than the other.

 

I can't really help you with the e-brake problem just yet. I might be able to in the future since I had thought about putting a 4th gen rear in my 87. Does everything bolt back up the same ? What about the wheels..do you have to use something different or anything. I know the 4th gen cars have such a strange offset to them...I had wondered if that would make the 3rd gen wheel come out in an odd position.

So I take it your car already had the PBR aluminum calipered rear disc brakes on its stock third gen rear axle? So you have the fourth gen brakes on it now with which cables, the third gen ones or the 4th gen ones? I am really not sure what the problem could be. My car had the older iron calipered rear disc brakes and I had to use the 4th gen cables and modify the bracket above the driveshaft to get it to work. I also had to back off the adjustment quite a bit for that bracket once I had it all hooked up.

 

Matt, I have the 4th gen brake cables. my car orginally had a drum brake setup but i sold the whole thing with cables and picked up the 4th gen stuff. I need to know how you modified the brackets over the driveshaft. also how did you adjust the tension on the cable. my ebrake handle goes all the way to the top real easy. I dont think you can use 3rd gen ebrake cables as someone posted in an earlier post.

 

Nope, you can't use the 3rd gen brake cables on the 4th gen brakes, at least not on the 96 T/A brakes. We just finshed up the swap about an hour ago and I am going to get some 4th gen cables and try and modify the bracket by the drivesahft to accept the 4th gen ones.

We had a similiar problem 3 days ago when we put a 97 T/A rear with brakes on my friends 91 Firebird, ebrake cables wouldn't fit into the y-harness by the driveshaft.

 

I had to grind some material off the two ends so that I could get them to fit through the bracket just above the driveshaft.

 

I'll have to probably do the same.
