Here is my idea of how to turbo these cars...
First off lose the 2.8L and the 3.1L. Go ahead and get a 3.4L bore it out as much as you can and still keep it a strong engine. While that is going on go ahead and get someone to make you a set of turbo headers. Make sure you port and polish your heads and intake. Get a bigger throttle body (an after market fiero one maybe?). I would go with MAF only because most every turbo setup I have seen uses the MAF system. Get a bigger MAF too. As for the turbo a good one to use I think would be the GN turbo. It is made for a V6 to begin with. Although it might be a bit big for this engine. If that doesn't come out to be a good choice I would look into seeing if you could use a second gen RX-7 turbo. Im sure RxSpeed87 could help you out there. Those are really good turbos that they use. You would HAVE TO get a custom chip tuned when you get your turbo tuned. Have a manual boost controler so it will make tuning much easier. Get a good aftermarket radiator that is used for the 3rd gen V8 cars. You can use the V8 radiators with no problem. Get a custom down pipe made and I think a good size would be 3". After the down pipe get a 3" exhaust CUSTOM made for the best flow by a good muffler shop and dont use any cats. For the muffler I would use flowmasters. But if I was doing this I would make a single exit exhaust with no cats or mufflers. If you have a manual tranny (which I hope everyone would use with a turbo setup) you would need a BOV. Many aftermarket ones for imports will work. I would go with HKS. You will need positive traction rear end. Someone makes a Ford 9" rear end for third gens. It is around $1,200. But well worth it. You will need an engine oil cooler too. Im sure someone makes them for the third gen. An intercooler will also be needed. There is many different intercoolers out there. The most popular design is the front mount. Everyone thinks that a frontmount is the best way to go but that is not true mostly. If you are running alot of boost 20+ PSI (which you wont) then a front mount is a good idea. Also if you are running a big one or two turbos (which you also wont) then a front mount will also be a good idea. I think a good intercooler for this setup would be a Mitsubishi 1st gen intercooler out of a turbo eclipse. I would paint it flat black and put it right behind the grille on the left side. This will not obstruct the flow of air to the radiator too much and it will give you the best shot to the intercooler for air also. You will also need a better fuel system. I would say go with 20 lb. injectors and a better fuel pump. Oh and another thing...get a bullet proof tranny, drive shaft loop, bigger wheels (17x9 up) and get some drag radials. After that have all the damn fun you can stand cause you will be pushing 350hp+. Hope this answered some questions.

that sounds about right. remember that the GN turbo is a garrett T3, can be found on a plethra of motors...is very well suited for small displacement cars. and can also be found on those little 2.3L ford four bangers, and i think so chryslers too. Big HP requires the intercooler, but if ur not looking for big power, or ur just trying to create more power and are short on cash u can leave an intercooler out, notice a bunch of GN's actually weren't equipped with them. There was a company that was making chips for turbo fieros, and now that there is a turbo fiero again, i'm sure those chips would work, and help the car take on the boost. Check for those chips online, sure u could find one. good luck no matter what happens.

LOL on the converting part. hehe, i think any modder or "enthusiast" of speed will tell you thought that if you want a to own a fast car you're best bet it to buy eh....a fox-body styled mustang later years say a 91 or so, with a 5 litre and work from there. The aftermarket performance parts are everywhere, and not to mention that a 351W will bolt directly up to that transmission. There's a guy in the automotive program at my university that's running a 87 mustang, pulled the motor after working to a low thirteen, replaced motor with a 351 Cleveland, and changed tranny too, doing some more work dropped fuel injection for carberator and is running mid 12's on street tires. Unlike a 2.8L v6 there are huge ammounts of aftermarket performance parts taht are made for 5.0's, i'd almost say that there are more for them then for 5.7L equipped birds, or 5.0L TPI f-bodies. A S/C, Turbo, NOS, every kit is out there and available, plus pistons, rings, heads, cranks, u name it all with performance brands manufacturing them. hehe...well, i'm still not gonna switch up anytime in the near future, can deal without all that speed for now and just settle with building a small little six to get me from point a to point be....with rapid transit.

other then the problem of routing the exhaust any turbo install is really no different then any other in the basic install. Its just that the under belly of the 3rd gen is so crammed already that tring to route some more 2 inch tubing under the car ESPECIALLY under the engine/K frame is next to imposible. You can run it UNDER the K frame, but then you better watch out for bumps. But after the routing the install is cake. Along with routing the intercooler and intake tubing.

Monkie, i got my Fox about... beginning of january? Yea, january 11th... the chevelle is still here too, but it belongs to my step dad now. My hopeful idea is to keep the fox and use it as a strip car after im done working on a 347, and buy a 99 cobra like you.. but with an ATI.
You will love the 99 Cobra. But if you want a strip cobra you will need a live axle. Anyways ATI makes good setup for my car...ahhh, ****. I cant talk right now. I will tell you more about it later tonight.

Graeme, what the hell!? You went mustang too!? When did this happen? Dude, fill me in I have been away too long.
Thats why I say its much easier to just buy a V8 car. (like I did TWICE)
