What really works?

I see all these guys conflict with each other. One says dynomax, one says flowmaster, another says hooker. Which catback, or muffler, will give me a deeper, throatier sound. (can't expect that much from a 6, but) If any of you guys know, leave a reply. Also, does anyone have any sound clips. V6's only!

Flowmaster 80 series muffler cat back system
i have it and i get ppl thinking i got a 5.0 under mah hood alll the time lol

also Flow is more bang and power for Ur buck
if Ur rich get edelbrock cat back or the awesome Borla system, >> BUT if UR really not broke azz poor screw Flow and get Dynomax > it isnt as good as the Flow but is good sound for REallY cheap Cheap price... ive seen a performance muffler from them for 40 i think in Jegs or summit or somewhere i cant remember

but NE ways it al depends on UR budget and Preference
good luck and have fun with it cuz in my opinion exhaust systems are fun to work with and present different challeges depending on what kinda configuration U may want

i hope i helped in some kinda way

buh bye :lala: :lala: :lala: :lala: :lala: :lala:

i cut my muffler right off... it sounded badass. Every Camaro and Mustang that pulled up next to me wanted to race. Eventually I had to put a muffler on because the neighbors said my car was waking them up at 2am and they were gonna call the cops. It was pretty funny.. if i just left my car outside idleing the house windows would shake. lol I went with the dynomax muffler and it sounds decent. But i'm thinking about chopping it off again its been 2 years and its rusted pretty bad where the muffler meets the pipe that goes to the cat. New neighbors have moved in since.. i wonder if they will mind? hehe

You're never gonna get a solid answer.

I used to have a flowmaster 80 on my car. It was cool....for about 2 weeks. Then it drove me absolutely insane. Driving on the freeway was a nightmare with that muffler screaming. I purposely drove slow around town so I didn't have to listen to it.
I went back to stock after about 2-3 months. Wasted a good $230 total.

It mainly boils down to 2 things.

Personal choice and how much you have to spend. Some are louder some are quiter, and some cost more.

Well to add to the confusion, lol, I have a Vortex Cherrybomb Catback exhaust system.

As with mostly any other exhausts on the 2.8/3.1 people commonly mistake our cars for V8 sounds. The exhaust note on my care is quite low, and the CAI helped that as well. I think it sounds pretty good through the RPM band as for I've heard some get raspy at higher RPMs. Also somone had made the comment about the annoying exhaust note while cruising at highway speeds, once my car shifts into OD it's a quiet rumble...

same here...vortex , with gutted cat

the cam made a huge difference in the way the car sounded...i get that deep note from 1500 rpm opnwards to about 3500 ...

but in OD its really quiet...in the highway...

i used to have a flowmaster ...in the highways it was loud ..(i want to see how the cam sounds on the flowmaster though)

edit: i also had open pipes for a while as my exhaust broke ..and it sounded ****...too damn loud

"What really works", as in horsepower? They're all about the same- as long as you buy a cat-back system, with all new, mandrel bent pipes.

"Works", as in, sound? I like my Dynomax Super Turbo catback, but it's the only muffler I've tried. Maybe you want to ask on the Exhaust forum- just don't mention you have a V6. Ask what cat-back sounds the best.

"Works", as in, price? I think the Dynomax super turbo system wins... and I think everyone's been happy with it.

"Works", as in, easier to install? Some systems have a two-piece intermediate pipe, and these will be easier to install, since the car doesn't need to be lifted up high on jackstands. The Dynomax system has a one piece I-pipe, but I've posted (in old messages on the V6 forum and Exhaust forum- do a Search, upper right corner of the screen) on how to install the system easily.

Basically, I think as long as you get a full catback system, you'll be happy with it.

They all are pretty good. I know for vaule the dynomax cat back kit is in my opinion the best deal. I also say support those who make parts for our cars...
