Ignition modules & igntion boxes.....
I'm planning on getting 2 systems, 1 for the bonnie, 1 for the bird. bonnie will get the Mallory HyFireIV-A & pertronix hei coil. Bird will get either the MSD 6A & later the BTM for the turbo or the 6BTM all-in-one, if I can swing it. Can I keep the stock ignition modules for these since I'm going for the ignition boxes, or will after market ignition modules and aftermarket boxes be the ticket?

Not sure about the bonneville (year, etc?) but for the f-body you could keep the stock ignition module. The MSD box connects to our remote HEI ignitions just like you're replacing a coil. On older HEI ignitions with the coil in the cap and the 4-pin ignition module, the MSD replaces the module. But for our cars, just think of the MSD box as a big coil... because that's all the car sees it as.

thanks, the boat is a 76 w/coil in cap. The manufacturers, at least in their adds never really cover this. :hail:
I do know that Accel makes a remote coil set up for the HEI in cap GM distb.
Which is kinda good.
The coil gets hot & it's heavy & wears/weighs down on the innards spinning round.
In theory this is a good idea to remove the heat & the excess weight.
Why not install a small cap rotor (if available) in the Bonnie?

coil in cap will be just fine, & cheaper too
is the mallory promo just in the summit catalog, it's not on the web sight.
TomP is right, downloaded the instructions for the MSD 6 series boxes, on the gm 4-pin modules, they are removed & replaced w/harness adapter. 5 & 7 pin modules are kept in place. Haven't really looked at the birds coil, is it 1 or 2 connecter? they have diagrams for both. Also won some accel wires on e-bay for $18.49

The 85-up 2.8/3.1 coils are remote, 2-connector. I think the V8's went to a remote coil HEI in '87? Not sure of the year with the V8's. But you won't find a 3rd gen with a single connector remote HEI coil.
