what are you leaking? Only gasket up front would be the timing chain cover, front of oil pan, and thermostat housing ( i don't think there is anymore)

Thermostat housing gasket, upper radiator hose crack.. or cracked thermostat housing..check them all..start your car, check the upper.. if its a leak from the water neck, youll notice or feel a crack..its most likely the gasket and its dribling water to where you think its something else.

the water pump has two vent holes, one at the top and one at the bottom. There is a rubber seal/wall inside that keep the coolant in there, once it dries out and cracks it leaks out them vent holes.

Now in the past I have used gasket sealer and screws that fit the holes tight to stop the leaking for a bit but sooner or later it will then start leaking out of the front bearing. You could drive it almost foever like that if you just watfh your coolant but water pump is cheap.

Time for a new water pump.

Umm do not forget the pot metal pluming fitting on the bottom of the intake under the throttle body. Attached to long black tube. Carries coolant for the throttle body warmer... that breaks damn easy 8 bucks and change to replace.

Maybe the 2.8L's are done a little different but the water pump doesn't bolt up to the block. It bolts up to the timing cover. and the timing cover bolts to the block. This could be ware you are leaking. Also as said before if you are leaking from the thermo water neck it will be hard to see ware it is coming from.

Let the car warm up so the stat opens up and pull on the throttle. watch for water. The leak should increase with engine speed. This may help pin point the leak.

Well, if it's driving you nuts, throw some baby powder at the area. The leak, when it starts leaking, should leave a trail in the powder. It might be that this leak only happens when the coolant is hot, or, the coolant might evaporate from it's source because it's leaking on a hot engine.

then I bet its that T/B bypass I spoke of.

Go to dealer and get that manifold adapter bolt(goes from the manifold to black tube) decribe to parts guy, they found it pretty quick for me. usually an overnoght thing, 8.40 or somrhing from dealer(not too bad for once)
Remove the Air Intake so you can see that black tube that has the hoses to the T/B.
First look to see if its wet at the bottom. Start the car and you can clearly see the thermo housing and that tube. If you see a puddle forming and nothing from the T/M housing, I bets its that tube.
Simply touch that black tube, I bet it moves/breaks off. Factory was pot metal. and they usually last 100-110K Miles the parts guy told me.

BOTH ideas are very sound (powder & the piping above water pump).
Don't discount the timing chain cover.
They do wear out especially ones that have never been replaced on high milage motors & poor radiator fluid changing habits.
I know cause my timing chain cover has wore out from behind/inside.
And only at 100,000 miles, too.
Let me know if ya need a cover I think I can score ya real good one & I have one aged (it's not bad..) timing chain cover on hand right now, too.

Mine's JB welded in. Had to....the previous one broke right off and drilling it out cracked the intake manifold.

I used a tap to get mine in. Went REALLY slow too!, like 30 minutes!

Oh to anyone intersted I think I'm going wankel! I found 87 RX-7 for pretty cheap. And the work it needs is minor. The MPG with these new smaller tires is killing me, 275-280 Miles per tank. So I started looking around and found this for $500!.
