Camaro RS-T? TTA motor in a 91 RS?

Just picked up a '91 RS for $100. Body is in almost perfect shape, someone keyed the back left 1/4 panel. Guy toasted the motor and I think it may be beyond what I want to put in it for $$ to fix the stock 3.1 V6. I was thinking about a Turbo 3.8 V6 transplant from either a 89 TTA or a Grand National. Anyone have any insight on compatibility of the 60* trans. Is the stock tranny for a 89 V6 RS a TH2004R or a TH700R4? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Whatever I do will be documented on a website in the near future.

Thanks in advance.

Um... yeah, ok, just head out to the local boneyard. I'm sure you'll find an '89 TTA there... j/k

Anyway, the GN 3.8T will go, just have to remove A/C, from what I hear. the heads don't want to fit into the FBody.

That's a 700r4. 60º V6 has a diff bellhousing pattern than the V8's tho!

AFAIK, the heads don't fit into it right. They're too wide. Yeah, I saw a guy around MIami with a nice black Camaro, with a 454 wedged in...

third generation cars were designed with fitting big blocked v8's in mind. And like stated before, the Grand nationals turbo buick won't fit inside of the engine bays width wise, it's not a matter of legnth, just larger heads that don't clear the strut towers. There's a guy on the board that's done that swap into his GTA. You won't be able to you use tranny, as its a 700r4 with a v6 bellhousing (bellhousing's not removeable). Use the turbo buick's tranny, it'd be your best bet, and keep with four speeds.

What motor/tranny was put in the 89 TTA, is it different than the buick turbo motors? Even if I can't get a TTA motor I'm sure I could build something close to it like a standard low compression 3.8 with forged internals. Most of what is done on small blocks can also be done to most V6's right? I'm trying to keep it V6. Its easy to put power in a V8 but its more fun to spank a 4.6 cobra with a V6 Camaro. Maybe I'll just come up with some sort of turbo 2.8. Thoughts are welcomed.

You can get a GN moton in our cars, you just need to use the heads off an FWD engine. All the info and parts needed for this swap are somewhere on this site. I have seen it here, i know it!

Found the info...

But I'm afraid thats way more $ than I want to put into this project... I think I'll just try to rig a turbo 2.8, shouldn't be too difficult. Thanks for all the info guys.

so far, there is yet to be a turbo 2.8l put in the third gen f-body. the motors have been built before with much money and not so muuch satisfaction. there is one guy on this board who is serious about making a turbo kit for these cars but is still in the planning processes. there is alot more to doing something like this than meets the eye. just my .02
