car is rough at idle
so i checked my manual. something i should have done before i posted.
could be a number of things:
-vaccuum leak
-fuel pump issue
-leaking head gasket
-my timing
could it be something else though? like something to do with my distributor?
i'm gonna go check my car right now, wires and whatnot. see if anything's loose.

it's carbed.
i had a tune up about 3 months ago, but i'm sure the guy did a crappy job.
i'm gonna be on the road pretty much all morning tomarrow, i'm just afraid that this problem will become a hazard when i'm driving.

well when i worked on my car, i changed my plug wires, spark plugs, coil, and then i had my distributor changed by my mechanic and also had him check timing. I'd check all of those things. also check fuel filter. I'm not familar with carbed cars yet. May have to do with something there...
I also noticed you'll be going to the cruise on the 25th. I'm going as well. glad to see another V6er on the cruise.

From one about to put back on all that carb'd smog stuff onto my 1985 Blazer.......
Want the truth?
Fuel filter is the worst project on this vehicle.
Don't bother as it'll not be the problem
Check condition of cap & rotor
Will it strand ya?
Doubt it
Check vacuum lines
Will it strand ya?
Doubt it
ONE TRICK so simple..
Loosen distributor, twist unit toward firewall. It'll smooth out instantly, I'll bet.
Your engine is aged.
To pass smog someone reset timing to stock & the original timing chain is so stretched...
Before you try anything else, twist the distributor it'll get better idle again.
It's up to you, how you'll eventually solve the aged engine problem. The carb'd vehicles (as is my 85 Blazer @211,500 original miles) are aged and lots of attention is needed for new long life.
What cruise event in SoCal?

thanks 91firebirdgt for you input,
and KED, i'll do that.
me and my bro have already tried fixing the fuel filter...what p.i.t.a., i'll leave that to the mechanic.
and yeah i'm goin' to the cruise tomarrow. or wait, were you asking if there was one?

Well, I read about the 3rd gen event too late.
Hope the solution was as simple as a twist on the distributor.
The carb'd motors need a dedicated amount of work to return to very good working conditon.
LOTS of the sensors undersides are gunked over, requiring removal & replacement or just checking for any functionality!
I have so many aged hoses on my Blazer set up.
My stuff has 211,500 miles on it.
Lots of fixing to do.
I already registered my truck as nonoperational, I missed smog test period.
No big deal, just time to keep going.
Also open your hood in the dark at night time. You'll see any igntion cross wiring going on.
Looks like a lightening storm.

Mine started to idle really rough over the summer.
I changed the O2 sensor and my Ignition module took a dump. I also had bad plug wires on it at that time. Changed that stuff out and its good to go!

My car at one point ran really rough. More rough than usual. Even after an extensive tune-up it still ran rough. Ever since I replaced my old and broken hoses with silicon ones, my engine has been running smoother and smoother every year.
I would suggest checking for vacuum leaks. Those plastic vaccuum lines, not to mention the rubber hoses can break fairly easy, especially in a car that is 15 or so years old.

No kidding. I barely touched one of my plastic vaccum lines to get to some spark plug wires and 2 of the vaccum lines cracked in half. Then the rubber hoses left a large black mess all over my hands and arms, which left lots of small holes in the hoses. I got tired of that so I had to get silicon replacements.
I trying to "remember" my 1985 S-10 Blazer vacuum emission hose set up.
I removed all the stuff now.....
I have diagrams/pics and such but still missing details...
Love to know what hooks up to the manifold vacuum attachment.
Again my subject is a 1985 S-10 Blazer 2.8 FEDERAL vehicle.
Like a Fbody, but different.
