Pulling engine tomarow...

tommarow is the moment of truth. I will decide if i should keep my 196,000 mile 2.8 block, go with a 3.4 block, or just splooge and go for the Aluminum Bowtie block.

I really want to do a turbo V6 Fbody... its something different that most people do not have. (nobody ATM) But i also want it to be plenty powerfull, around 400hp when at the track, 250 on the street.

I dont really want to take the easy route and do a 350, which my uncle says i should do. Im not a 100% believer in "There is no replacement for displacement", but in theory it is true.

I have the money to build a 500hp 350, but thats just not my cup of tea, i want my Bird to not only do well in the straight line, but also handle like a dream. (not really that possible with a heavy *** 350)

My uncle (has 3 drag only cars at over 650hp each) He wants me to just turn my bird into an all out, non street legal drag car. I want to use it as my daily driver, sell my tempo and get an old Chevy C10 as a drag truck. He doesnt belive that anything less than a V8 can have real power.

Anyways, we are pulling the engine tommarow and tearing apart the bottom end and look at it very closely for cracks, thing spots, etc.

I will make up my mind tommarow.

if you still want a six, do the 3.4 short block w/3400 upper half. Thread w/link in it somewhere in here.

If yo want to go to V8, & still keep corner carving ability, do an LS1 swap . Weight of all aluminum engine no more than 200lbs over 3800 SeriesII . Lokking for lik right to to show.

edit: Good info on the weight differences.. very surprising

good luck w/ it, pulling a motor isn't hte most difficult thign in the world to do, so you'll be alright. If you're up for the challenge (and it'd be a big challenge) you cna try for 400hp out of a 2.8-3.4L block, but just remmber that you're biting off more than GM could chew. If the Ls1 swap isn't pioneering enough for you, aka (it's been done) and u want a turbo six then i'd say go Buick / TTA setup, that'd be a fun lil' thing to run. Either swap and you're looking at grands upon grands, consider it a complete drivetrain upgrade, not just an engine....tranny, rears, might as well do a driveshaft to aluminum while ur at it...and after it's all said and done, a set of 16x8's would be nice with some meaty 255's out back to get a lil of that 400hp to the ground.

If you want 400hp, and cornering, you'll be going LS1. :nods:

Especially since you seem to have plenty of $$ to throw at it. If I had the cash, I'd be turboin' a LS1, not a 2.8.

how much was that Twin turbo blazer pushing?

What i want, is a street car with moderate power and decent gas mileage. And then i also want a drag car/truck.

IMO, a Turbo'ed V6 would be awsome for the street. Moderate power, nice handleing, decent gas mileage, etc. Power can be adjusted when needed.

I hate the idea of a gas guzzling V8 on the street, i had a 78 F150 with a 427, i had to fill that damn thing up like every other day. I had the money, but it was just super annoying to have to fill up that often. I sold it and then got a Tempo.

gas guzzling V8? depends on how you build/tune it. When I got my stb for my gpgt, I looked at a window sticker for an 03 'vette. It was rated for better millage than by gp .

'77 pontiac Firebird with a 354, and 4bbl Qjet getting 20+mpg all day long, with my foot in the secondaries...

Hell, I'm aiming for 25mpg and 1000hp on my '81 TT T/A project. not at the same time, but that's the beauty of turbo systems!
