Unless ya got lots of open roads as I once had in Eastern PA (Bucks/Montgomery county), find the drag strip.
Next await the Pacesetter headers to be made very soon
Rebuild your distributor
Upgrade ignition
Upgrade the engine by installing a 3.4 from a 1993-95 F Body & prep tranny for lots of abuse!
Have fun.
PS Ya still loose but you'll have more fun trying!

the six cylinder stangs have been 3.8L's since 1993 i think.......the ones that came out after the fox bodies...the newest stangs are 193hp engines, with 225 TQ i believe. My mom's stock 02' model will chirp second gear b4 the traction control engages and this is w/ and automatic (manuals will chirp in anything from a stock civic to a daewoo). I'd say, make sure ur motors in good running order, strap on a 75-100 shot of nitrous oxide, and let the nitrogen run to your brain....have fun.

dont they run like high 15's in the quarter? yeah, try some nitrous and make sure ur engine can handle it. some of the smaller shots shouldnt be too bad... but i'm not an expert.

yeh, new ones should be mid 15's haven't run ours yet.

The newer ones are really hard to take, but you should be right up there with the 94-95 140 horsepower V6 stangs. I think in 96 they upped the horsepower to 150, not sure though. I run right with the earlier V6 stang autos though.
On a side note. Don't ever let over ricers getting onto the merge lane on the highway. Made that mistake today and the moron thought I was trying to race him. It was an idiot in an older Escort with a huge wing as too!

New ones (96+?) are mid 15 second 6's... you'll need a shot of nitrous, or some serious work (cam/heads, and get your cr up to around 9.5:1) to really keep up.

i've got a buddy that has a 01 v6 stang and when we were both stock...i'd smoke him off the line but he'd pass me once we got to about 40 mph. we both have automatics and the stang WILL NOT chirp second gear, it might with a shift kit or on wet roads but it shifts WAYYY too smooth to chirp anything. i can beat him now though with my new motor but he's got full exhaust and an intake.

AM91, ya gotta tell ur friend to manually shift his automatic...do the shift at 4500-5000 and it'll let a very very very mean chirp into second gear. Manually shifting those cars is the only way to hold line pressure long enough to get the tires to roll over.....I can completely believe you taking him off the line, know i could probalbly take ours off the line, the 3.8Mustang motor takes forever to rev up, i'll be sitting at 2k rpm in that car, but mine would be in mid 3's headingto 4.............gotta love the revibility of the small six.

coulda swornthat 5.0 mustangs were roughly 215hp cars, no more than that though, but 215 solid, which was why GM re-introduced the 350 into the f-body, because a 302 ford could run dead even auto-to-auto w/ a 305 camaro, and with a 5 speed the foxbody was faster.... the 350 evened the ground and let the f-body pull back ahead in the race. I'm pretty sure that the old 5.0 topped out at about 230hp with the new body style, but i'm not 100%, but they dropped it after 1995 in favor of the 4.6L which now makes 260hp...still way behind the ole' pushrod designed LS1, and that ford is using overhead cams, (duals on the cobra)which gave it around 320hp, slap a S/C on, and 390....not bad , but not to impressive if you ask me.

Im trying to find the site that shows all of the mustangs HP rateings but i did find this but this applies to the new 4.6L engines
About the engine: In 1996, the Mustang GT ditched the 5.0 OHV unit, and got a new engine in the form of a 4.6 liter V8 modular unit. While rated at only 215 horse power in 1996 and 1997, and 225 in 1998, the 1999-2002 Mustang GT's offer basically the same 4.6 SOHC engine, only with 260 horse power and 302 lb-ft of torque. This welcomed increase in power is mainly because of higher lift, longer duration cams, bigger valves, and a revised intake system.

Go buy a V8 car if ya wanna do any damage on the street.
These 6-ers are ok but ya won't win a race unless ya step up to the plate with a BIGGER ENGINE
Like either a 3.4 or a V8 powered ride!
My 3.4 powered ride?
I won't win every race but sure is lots more fun than that little fishing line weight motor I had!
