Can you identify this?

There is a bolt head that sticks out of the 2.8L V6 block near the oil filter on the driver's side. I looked in my parts catalog and all it says is, PLUG, Spl (1/4-18 NPTF Dry Seal). I cannot figure out what it's there for and what is behind it. I thought if it was coolant I would not want to mess with it. However, if there is oil behind that sucker I could pull it out and use it as a convenience place for an oil temperature sender. So does anyone have an idea on what that bolt is for?

That is a good idea I have not thought of that. What size fitting do I need though for that? Don't I need a special tool to remove the sender for the oil pressure?

It's 10mm.
Wire in a guage & use that sensor supplied with gauge.
MAKE SURE the guage you use reads to 80! pounds!
Not V8 60!
Serious.

KED: I was going to try putting in an oil temp gauge not a pressure gauge, I've already got one of those.

OOPPS!!
You know what could be a good fix, also?
Wrecking yard, get the filter house, modify, then swap to engine.
Requires new gasket the obvious & your time.
COULD make a more leak free conversion.
I had a major oil filter housing leak that required remounting with new gasket to stop that leak.

A year or two back I had the oil pressure sender crack and had to have it replaced. Although at the time I didn't have a clue what was going on so I paid to have a dealer fix it, oh well, I know better now.

Any reason for wanting oil temp? Just curious; I never understood the purpose of that kind of gauge. Seems like oil pressure and coolant temp are all that's needed. But I'm guessing you already have a full gauge dashboard?

If you have an automatic trans you might want to put in an trans temp gauge, along with an aftermarket trans cooler... hot fluid = fluid burns = trans dies

I have full gauges oil pressure, coolant temp, and so on. I just wanted the gauge so when I do get a cooler I could get a baseline for the temperature without one. But now since I got this lovely ticket last night from a trooper who said I was doing one thing when my speedometer said another will prevent that. Not to mention he got my license plate # wrong by one digit so I think I will contest that.

That is what I am going to say. The trooper said I was doing 77 in a 65 but when I looked down it said 70. I changed the speedo from the stock 115mph one to a new 145mph one. I don't think it could be off cause I paced a state trooper and passed him doing 65-70 at the beginning of the month on the same interstate and that guy didn't pull me over.

Take me back to Ol Virginnie!!
IN HANDCUFFS!
I assume I'm still wanted for not paying that "Speeding Ticket" I got by a Virginia Cop "IN" Virginia yet Virginia Cop pulls me over in Maryland after I crossed the Bridge on 495. Writes the ticket while on Maryland side of bridge, too.
This is back in 1980. I never paid & still refuse to this day!

You got the ticket.
Your signature is on ticket, right?
It's You, no matter what ya try. Promise, they want your money, that's all. Sounds like they got it sorry to say.

I used to live in Arlington & worked at Fairfax Circle & had friends in DC & Maryland.
Still ban radar detectors? Still remove them from car if found?

Expensive way to test accuracy of speedometer swap (I know but I'm sorry, gotta give a laugh!).

It says by singing it I only certified that it is my mailing address on the summons. I am talking to a lawyer on Monday to see what he thinks before I decide to wait till September to pay it. If he thinks it's a bad idea I am going to have the speedo tested.
