Opened up my air boxes

well awhile ago i read a technical article on V6s and it says u can drill holes in ur airbox to let in more air. Well i had nothing to do the other day so i did it. also i read a article about someone who took out those little arced pieces under their filters and put in K&Ns and got like 3 tenths of a sec. So im hoping this will make somewhat of a difference. I felt a little difference, some pics are attached

i cut mine off just above the stock air intake ports or whatever you want to call them, made a top end difference. it was better than drilling and takes 5 minutes. id say try that and see what you get from drilling.

The boxes are designed to keep water from "supposedly" entering the intake under wet conditions. If you run K&N's you'll be fine to cut them out completely- stock paper filters can possibly get rain soaked though. Here's a pic of mine- been cut out completely for years and no problem with restriction when K&N filters get slightly damp from heavy rains/wet roads.

That's what I did to mine and I live out near Seattle. Been thinking about running dryer/ac duct from there to the grill for a type of forced induction set up.

That's on my wishlist too. I'll do some cutting or drilling, and maybe some ducting. Or maybe just a custom CAI. It'll have to wait until I get everything else done.

if i have the stock filters and i cut the bottom off, do you really think it would make any kind of difference in the rain? would it mess things up?

As AGood 2.8 said stock filters will get messed in the rain. Go for the K&Ns or Cool Blue. They last forever. You just have to clean them every once in a while. Keep your old filters to pop in while you're cleaning the K&Ns.

Also, you don't have to cut everything out. You can make it work way better and still leave the filters protection from the rain. The stock box has a couple of small holes in it and that's it. That's just so they didn't end up having to recall a million cars for filter problems.

I cut mine out just before last winter and still run paper filters. I never had a problem with rain water or anything and my street freakin' floods everyitme it rains 0.25 inches because it's the lowspot in the area. All the water drains to my street and makes it a 6 inch deep river. Stupid L.A. city works need to come clean out the damn drains again.
